There is nothing particularly wrong with Hmong or any other ethnic/racial group that is non Black participating and enjoying hip hop music and culture. Some things this participation warrant is a dress code and parlance a vernacular and dress style common to group members which yields group identification .I do object to the usages of the word nigga from black and non-blacks alike. One should not feel and view the Hmong hip hop heads as an apostate .Hip Hop is a product of the African American culture as is Jazz and the Blues that is an apodictic but that does not circumscribe the genres to only people of African ancestry. The only time we as a community object to others groups engaging in our cultural production is when a parody is made then it no longer Hip Hop it becomes a minstrel show .lastly African American Do Not Hate any particular groups our history teaches us to avoid such practices we generally hate ideologies such as racism, white supremacy and ethnocentrism

Hey Autokill, I think I can agree with your point. I too can see that many of these Asian kids are trying to imitate someone just so they can be 'cool'. Hence, the logo 'AZN' is created for. i won't lie, i don't have an answer to your question but from my observations, we are trying to be original. we're still a young growing people who throughout history has been pursuede, killed and forced into exile, forced different life styles, locations and identities. so i would assume that we lack an indentity because we've never settled down long enough to actually maintian one except the very few traditions that the elders were able to keep alive and past down.

WE CAN ACT HOW WE WANT

First of I really don't know if every has followed this topic, so I hope everyone gets their facts straight.

Sure a large portion of both the Asian and Black community has a very similar background, I would guess that a lot of Asians even grew up next to Black communities. I would see that the media also plays a part in to this "scenario", how ever alot people give the media like MTV and other stations too much credit. The point is, people dress up and act like "Black People" to be cool. Eventually the status that the Asian, and I must stress Asians for I will not just focus on the Hmong community, will raise for being within the what is at the time a popular culture. That will further influence ones behavior within that state of mind that one adopts. Eventually this WILL be passed on. On all levels whether it be speech, actions or dress. I can safely assume that this does not just belong to the black culture. It is an American culture. Sure just because Blacks founded it doesn't mean that it is theirs. I know for a fact that blacks ripped it from whites and so on and so forth. They used their back ground to influence and change the media that they had at the time and that would be music. Even to day the standards of music is changing. This is due to the different views, values, and philosophies of an individual that takes it upon themselves to change.

Theres no "hate". To say that we are offend, is right. For we Hmong should be offend. Offended that will still take up these practices. Its one thing to keep doing what you like, but its another when we decide to change that standard that is being set. If you would like a large portion of the Hmong young adults are behaving more like the O' Gs than they would like to. Adopting customs and beliefs and strictly abiding by them. Yes, that sounds right.

To put a personal twist to what I have shed to lite, I for one do not enjoy the hip-hop scene as my fellow Hmong people or my roommates for that matter. I have taken it upon myself to change the image of the Asian community, as well as the Hmong community. Being educated is always whats "in". Being educated doesn't even mean going to college or even finishing it for that matter. LEARN WHATS IN FRONT OF YOU. Know the language, speak it, write it. I know it would be easier to speak and type in slang. Pick up a book for once and read, even reading articles online can influence your outlook.
