People who are not black, can look at an african and not tell the difference between an african american and someone from Kenya, but we can.

well according to researchers and educators... when blacks first came to the new world they didn't speak a lick of or extremely limited english... they were brought to the new world as slaves to build the new world and work on plantations those sort of things... then some of them began to pick up the language and some masters even taught their slaves to speak, but if these master's we caught by their peers they were punished because it just wasn't the thing to be teaching what they thought "inferior" people how to read and write... but some of them managed to do it anyways... blacks back then picked up the english language but they spoke it using a different dialect... something that wasn't what we call today standard english... thus we call the black english a.a.v.e.= african american venacular english or what's it's commonly called by other people- ebonics.

But that was then and this is now. All African Americans are entitled to education. Yet in our society, they have CHOSEN to speak AAVE when they are provided the chance to learn proper English.

Many of them feel that they are supposed to speak this way and the improper use of grammer defines their people. I think it is rather silly to continue to speak the same way their oppressed ancestors did. Their ancestors didn't have a choice.

aave is a KNOWN language among blacks in american society and among many english and non english educators around this country... just like hmong, spanish, chinese and etc. Ebonics should be appreciated... they speak that way, but that doesn't mean it's GHETTO... and yes they are entitled to education... many blacks acquire the standard english language as well, they switch when they hang around their own people because it makes them feel more comfortable.... just like some people may switch from chinese to english it's just like that for blacks who switch from standard english to aave.

it's not blacks speaking their language that bothers people, it's why 'other' people start to talk like them JUST to BE GHETTO... like asians who believe they are from the "hood".. errr
