Singaporeans have an unique identity, being a nation of mostly "Nanyang" Chinese that speak English as their primary language. Therefore, I suggest we should start a separate forum for them.
Suijen
Aren't you from Singapore?
jareth_chong
Mom was.
Suijen
We need to take into account how many Singaporeans there are on AF and how strong their influence is in Asia. I'm not sure if creating a board for every country in Asia is a good idea. I've also heard that many Singaporeans have a very strong Chinese identity. I'm not too sure about the non-Chinese in Singapore though.
jareth_chong
Like Malaysia, Singapore has three major ethnic groups: Chinese, Malay, and Indian. I don't think Malays and Indians would fit into the Chinese Chat. Malaysia and Singapore are adversaries in many ways. There is a little bit of bad blood between the two, so I don't think Singaporeans want to share a chat forum with Malaysians.
ranmatatsumaru
Sure, why not?
jareth_chong
So, is there going to be a Singaporean Chat or not??
Suijen
Contact the overlord about it.
sirgika
Are you kidding me...

most boards are created with "many" demands. I think you should start a campaign first embarassedlaugh.gif
ham_let
yes. only problem is there aren't a lot of singapoeans here. hikaru venus... and... that's it i think.

it's like having bhutan chat. although that'd be pretty awesome.

The two neighbouring countries can be likened to that of a divorced couple, who know each other's most sensitive points only too well. No matter, the important thing is having enough singaporeans around ...

On a personal side, i have many relatives and friends from singapore. So, no problem of supporting the singapore-chat beerchug.gif

sirgika
Honestly, is there really that much to talk about Singapore.
Suijen
There haven't been too many Singaporean topics in Chinese board...well, there were a few.
Ek-ek
Singapore topic will be nice but Bhutan? Are there are not enough people coming from Bhutan?
Suijen

Here the thing: There is lots of topics to talk about Singapore. But where are the Singaporeans going to open up topic when there is no specially place for them to write. Alright i can list for you why there is lack of Singaporeans replying forum here.

1) They either too busy to reply
2) Singaporeans have no rooms to speak their mind
3) When they could not find specialy place for themselves, the turn to other forum who are more open to any topic.
4) Singaporeans post too many bulletin as a forum at Friendster.
5) Most of them sign up for Myspace/livejournal/friendster to fill the emptiness.
6) Since there is no Singapore Forum, might as well joined the fun with other forum that they could link to.

Secondly, there is much to talk about Singapore. For example:

>The new issue about Australian workers finds fate in Singapore better than back at their country. Does this mean Singapore is a temptation island?

> This forum could help other country to understand Singapore singlish version much better.

> Open book for lots of project in Singapore such as: Project Superstars/Actors/anugerah etc...

> Language problem? : Indeed true that most Singaporeans are Chinese but that does not mean the Chinese Singaporeans could not speak basic Malay. And so does the Malay whom could speak basic Chinese language.

> Students in Singapore could open up talking about school lives.

> Places of interest in Singapore...

> Singaporeans also could play small judging over new changes of the Education in Singapore.

> Searching for local talent such as :Singapore Idol

> Which type of movie Singaporeans turns on

So what does that mean there noting to talk about Singapore? Is that mean Singapore is boring to talk about? I bet i don't think so.

embarassedlaugh.gif2 Yeahlolz, this is reason why there wouldn't be so many replies. It'll end up with Malaysians, Indonesians, Chinese and Indians talking about Singapore and the Singaporeans. Besides the people could just post anything about Singapore in the Malaysian chat (let them take the burden icon_twisted.gif )
forrestcat
haiya, there is an Asia-Pacific forum on the World Armed Forces Forum, Singaporeans and Malaysians always fighting with each other, each threatening to invade each other, Malaysia-Singaporean arguments often put the India-Paki bashing to shame.I dunno what will happen if there's Singaporean Chat here. confused.gif confused.gif

I am OK with it, if they want it. Its their right.

FYI, maybe singaporeans afraid to have chat here, maybe PAP is watching them here. embarassedlaugh.gif

What the different to make a singaporean board? Do you expect to see more 'la' 'leh' 'meh' 'lor' 'ar' in the board? embarassedlaugh.gif2
leeka
Why not having a singapore chat, even malaysia have one.
JingKe
hey i support this. im not singaporean but i currently live in singapore for university.
tengkuafif
I don't there is a need for a Singaporean Chat.
Singapore is too small.
What can we talk about Singapore, anyways?
They don't even have the Lonely Planet Singapore travel book.
tangawizi
Hi everybody! The vote is 2 to 1 in favour of a Singaporean Chat forum. This is quite a demonstrative show of support, so is there any basis why a decision shd not be taken now in favour of having one soon? Thanks
kunomchu
I rarely see any singporean topics. Be hard to convince ben to put one up.
tangawizi
Hmmmm....there's not a very fair reason, juz coz they are a minority group doesn't mean they shdn't get a space under the same sun? There's already a formal request and vote on this by several forummers, so there's obviously an interest to see it included in the chat forums, so such a decision not to include it would appear to be arbitrary and unfair... unless a fairer reason can be given? Thanks!
kunomchu
well an empty chat section will make the forum look bad.
tangawizi
embarassedlaugh.gif how wd you know it'll be empty? I'd say put it up first and give it a chance, wouldn't you agree?
Lint
Singaporeans are annoying as heck, especially in groups embarassedlaugh.gif We already have a chinese chat, so let them go there and keep all our itches in one spot embarassedlaugh.gif
kodomo
that's not a gracious nor fair comment. there are alway bad sheeps but that does not mean Singaporeans are all annoying. since this is an international forum, objectivity is needed.
Lint
did u sign up just to say that? No $hit, not all Chinese know how to use chopsticks either. I was just using crass generalisations to support my opinion which indicates I don't hold it (i.e the opinion) that strongly either.

If you're looking for objectivity your brain will haemmorage browsing this whole forum embarassedlaugh.gif
Viety_Cent

confusing confused.gif
tutu2000

woah! why such facetious comments about Singaporeans and Chinese in the first place? it's evident from the poll there are sufficient folks around interested in the subforum. what's the real problem??
anakjakarta84
I'm sure a lot of Malaysians, Indonesians and Chinese and maybe Indians will post there too, so it wouldn't be as empty. Besides there are already many threads about it in the Malaysian and Chinese forum.

in a sense yes. been reading and this is one post that brings a response in me. so you have contributed to the forum for bring in a member. beerchug.gif

Disagree. You can maintain objectivity despite of what is going on. Same theory as you are the one in control of ur life not the things happening around you.
