I was taught by my parents to cover my mouth when I laugh... and I notice Japanese people do it too, especially the girls. Hmm were anyone taught to cover their mouth when they laugh?

I learned to cover my mouth when I am eating, and when I am picking stuff out from my teeth.

oh my gosh...
All japanese and korean female fobs I see...
Always cover their mouths when they laugh
It's so annoying.
I always thought they covered their mouths because they had really nasty teeth. I don't know the real reason but oh well.

It depends. I cover my mouth if it's a bad time to laugh so as to hide it.

some asian people cover their mouths when they laugh to hide their teeth because some of them have pretty jacked up teeth

My Korean friend would instantaneously cover his mouth at every instance he could whenever he'd laugh. We used to tease him alot about it. I guess it's not just the Japanese.
Apparently it's dishonorable to show your teeth or the insides of your mouth while laughing cause it looks brutish and uncivilized. At least that's what I heard from BBC's documentaries of Japan.
