Guess which one's the robot?

Repliee Q1 (at left in both pictures) appeared yesterday at the 2005 World Expo in Japan, where she gestured, blinked, spoke, and even appeared to breathe. Shown with co-creator Hiroshi Ishiguru of Osaka University, the android is partially covered in skinlike silicone. Q1 is powered by a nearby air compressor, and has 31 points of articulation in its upper body.

Internal sensors allow the android to react "naturally." It can block an attempted slap, for example. But it's the little, "unconscious" movements that give the robot its eerie verisimilitude: the slight flutter of the eyelids, the subtle rising and falling of the chest, the constant, nearly imperceptible shifting so familiar to humans.

Surrounded by machines that draw portraits, swat fast-moving balls, and snake through debris, Q1 is only one of the showstoppers at the expo's Prototype Robot Exposition, which aims to showcase Japan's growing role in the robotics industry.

But given Q1's reported glitch-related "spasms" at the expo, it may be a while before androids are escorting tour groups or looking after children—which may be just as well. "When a robot looks too much like the real thing, it's creepy," Hiroshi told the Associated Press.

That's nice but it's gimmick simulacrum only. One of these days A.I. is going to come into existence for real and these robots will do more than merely look life-like. Those engineering the scientific resources required for the production of that sort of intelligence will be Korean.
kpjoon
He probably created it so he can have sex with it hahahahahah

Hmm. I prefer the ASIMO icon_confused.gif

Typical. Whenever there's a thread that celebrates achievements made by the Chinese or Japanese, chances are, a disgruntled Korean (or a Korea-lover) will barge in and try to disparage those efforts with comments like "that's nothing, Korea is better" or "Koreans are more intelligent". Funny thing is, I can imagine how much of a stink these people would create when someone else does the exact same thing to their achievements.

It's not typical at all. I'm just making a very peculiar and eccentric prediction based on private sources. embarassedlaugh.gif Plus, do Japanese people actually post here? Your name is Japanese, but I doubt you are one. Perhaps you are wannabe?

ps: I agree with kpjoon. cool30.gif

I never claimed to be a Japanese. Try again icon_rolleyes.gif

*EDIT*

And your name doesn't even sound Asian. Perhaps you're a white-wannabe? embarassedlaugh.gif2

I'm speaking English too which is my primary language. I must be a white wannabe. Or maybe I'm just doing the normal thing as an American posting on an American board for English speakers?

Anyway, just to make myself clear: No. Prediction that I gave has nothing to do with my regard for Japanese people. You misunderstood.

You just reiterated my point. Supposedly, everyone who has a Japanese-sounding SN must mean they're a "wannabe". Whatever man. I don't see people commenting on those who have an Anglo-sounding SN to be a "white wannabe" sure.gif

Nope. You missed the point. Context of a guy using a name or term derived from aspects of American culture is not equivalent to that of a non-Japanese guy using a J name on an American board. I'm not quite an "American wannabe" - since I am American. You on the other hand... embarassedlaugh.gif

Are you even Caucasian-American? Because if you are, then maybe I was too rash when I read your first comment in this thread.

And besides my username, what proof do you have that I am supposedly a "wannabe"? Because, leafing through an online dictionary, a "wannabe" is defined as:

1. One who aspires to a role or position.
2. One who imitates the behavior, customs, or dress of an admired person or group.
3. A product designed to imitate the qualities or characteristics of something.

Now, where have I shown that I'm related to any of the above descriptions?

Have I said/claimed that I was "Japanese"?

Have I dressed like one or even "behaved" like one?

Or better yet, have I made something that looks suspiciously like a Toyota or a Sony product?

If all you have to go by is a username, then, well...

Oh man, get back on topic or else I will issue warnings.

God dammit, you just want a Stepford Wife! Admit it!

Is it true that the creator would ask a copyright from Ira Levin so that he can use the term "The Stepford Wives" for marketing purposes?

I think they could of given her a better wardrobe.

If you have a more advanced AI the robot could serve as a maid.
