I was wondering how Japanese people react on movies by Miike. Coz here in europe for most people he is dumb, violent and very stupid director biggrin.gif For example Visitor Q was very shocking movie for people that i know and they said that like all his movies it had no sense, it was dumb and stupid and that he has no idea what the real movie has to looks like biggrin.gif I can't agree with that coz i liked Visitor Q very much and for me Miike is briliant, i love all his movies, i love the way he shows his ideas (comic, violent and sometimes very mysterious biggrin.gif). I like shocking cinema, violent and all of most fresh (i was grown up on some hollywood crap, so almost every asian movie is fresh for me biggrin.gif) So what do you - japanese think about Takashi Miike (i am very curious how he is seen in his own country biggrin.gif)

He is a great actor and director. Yes his movies maybe violent and at first glance it is just some action movie but you have to see beyond that. His movies traditionally depict Japanese ways of life, respect, honor, loyalty, etc. You should see some more of his movies and you should understand a little better.

I never liked him. He plays the same roles and he can't act for $hit.

How do you know what Italian, French, German, etc. people think about Miike? I mean, you probably only know about Polish people opinions. But Europe is not yet a place where the different countries share the same mentality or culture. I know your country is unsignificant, maybe that's why you like to refer 'your' place as europe. But I have some friends who do like Miike's style, mostly guys.

hmm, i dunno, but i really enjoyed his movies
maybe coz he's brave enough to make a movie about certain aspects in life that nobody wants to do? ^^;

I saw many of his movies, and i like a lot his way of showing life and japanese culture (which i am huge fan biggrin.gif, becouse of him i started learning japanese biggrin.gif).
And i know people who like him, but on many forums i saw opinions like:

He's movies are boring, with violence he tries to divert people attention from his lack of talent, etc.

And i that in europe you can find diffrent cultures but as a whole continent it is not so diffrent as culture of polish and japanese people. First of all in tha asian culture the violence thing it isn't something rare and in european movies, film with such amount of blood and violence as in korean or japanese is very rare. And when someone will do sucha movie it almost all the time will get not-so-friendly reviews ('bla bla bla the director has no concept and idea how to make a movie and put in it a lot of sex, violence and blood bla bla bla...' biggrin.gif) I heard also comments of people who have seen Audition in the cinema, and they say that was the most boring movie ever made, and some of them were going out of the cinema while 'kiri kiri kiri', whith disgust biggrin.gif And that's how Miike is seen by many people (not all of them, but many biggrin.gif). And that's why i was asking if in Japan he is also shocking and controversial director without idea how to act or make a movie or just he is high rank profesional who is loved by the crowds (and by some is hated, you can give all the people what they want biggrin.gif)

Japanese films are pretty extreme, they def are not afraid to step out of the safe side, it's surprising what you might see.
