Being Filipino means that i'm half Hispanic and half Pacific Islander icon_rolleyes.gif

Being Filipino means a lot to me. It's part of who I am. God made me a Filipino and I would so jump his a$$ if he didn't make me one j/k embarassedlaugh.gif Anyway, there's no other ethnicity I would rather be but Filipino.
Anqi
I'm just a half Filipina (other half german) but I do feel like a Filipina and I'm very proud of it. It's a very importend part in my life. biggrin.gif

$hit you should see this one girl on Asianavenue. She said that she called herself Hawiian, and she basically said that she was ashamed to be called a filipino.
Cristiano_Ronaldo
^ That's fu-ked up! Damn, I might puke with disgust just by looking at so many of these types of people. Hawaii sounds like heaven for Filipinos with identity crisises.

"I'm Hawaiian. Nice to meet you!"

"No, you're fu-king not. You're a Hawaiian wannabe Filipino thumbsdown.gif"

seriously I remember reading her page. She said Im filipina, but Im not proud of it. Then she talked about how better hawiians are and that filipinos were fake and $hit, and she said that she would usually join other hawiians in making fun of filipino FOBs.

If I could only find her web page again, grr.

I also heard that a lot of half german/half filipina badly want to be european....(most of the girls/boys who say this are the ugly ones)...but I really do feel sorry for them. icon_neutral.gif

Is it because they relate more to their european side?
Cristiano_Ronaldo
This is all making me sad. Not a single one of these people are proud of being Filipino icon_sad.gif Mostly those who are clueless of Filipino history. Even some of the Filipino/Spanish mestizos/mestizas i've encountered in the Philippines were more proud of being Filipino. They beated the non-mixed race-traitor Filipinos themselves eek.gif

I think it's because they feel kind of "ashame" ... they're much more smaller and do have bigger noses...and so on. They try to hide their ethnic background, dy their hair blond, wear blue contact lenses and do not talk about their roots. Especially girls do this. Besides...there're not so many filipinos in Germany compare to the US, that's why we don't have kind of filipino community. All of my friend are germans (or other europeans), this makes me even more proud to have filipino roots.

Seriously I think that the bangsamoro people have a better grasp of what it means to be a true native. They actually fight for their culture and heritage.
Anqi
Yupp....I hope so.
I'm so unhappy that my Mom didn't told me Tagalog, but now I do learn it by my own, beside Bisaya (because my family comes from Davao)
But don't understand me wrong: Eventough I'm very proud to be half filipina, I do have a totally german attitude, because all my life I lived in germany. I grew up here, I go to university here....It's also kind of hard to combine two cultures...but I don't stop trying

i have read an article in a newspaper with a title "who wants to be a filipino" the writer surprisinlgy wanted to be a european with all the richness of its culture and so and so forth. if he was to be given another second life, he prefer to live in another country rather than face the everyday problems here in the philippines. it was kind of sad reading that there are actually people, already living the life of being a filipino, despise it and loathe the idea of being one. we were even described in the dictionary as maids! grr madgo.gif

Those people grow out of that, it's normal for someone, no matter where they are or what they are, to want to feel accepted and part of their community.

i seriously doubt it

I feel very Pilipino. in a sense that my parents are from the P.I. and that here in the states i am categorized as a Pilipino. From the culture, to the sub fil-am culture. I do have many many Pilipino friends as well as my girlfriend being of Pilipino descent from Guam. I live in San Francisco so there are many Pilipinos here. Although i do have many Pinoy/Pinay friends i do have non-Pilipino friends, i don't segregate myself into one culture. i try to absorb many others and become aware of other life in different sectors of personalities and character traits.

When asked if i am Pilipino i state it proudly, even though i don't speak tagalog or visaya which my parents speak. But when it comes down to it i feel very Pilipino, and it feels f-cking good!
TakTAk-Boy
i'm feeling kinda gassy. icon_neutral.gif is that how being filipino feels like? biggrin.gif

Years ago, perhaps during the dictatorship of one sick fu-k named Ferdinand Marcos, Filipino women started to travel to other countries and work as domestic helpers (a.k.a. maids). Not soon afterwards, there was an entry in the Webster's Dictionary (at least the one from our school, not online) that says: Filipina. 1.) A female person from the Philippines; 2.) A maid.

There were protests that sprung after that... and eventually the publishers of the Webster's Dictionary apologized and took out the entry.
