No, I'd say 20 years ago the rate of luk-krueng born out of the sex trade was definitely not as high as it is now.

I think its safe to say that many of the luk kruengs today have hooker moms. It may be uncomfortable for many to accept it, but it is factual.

The dumb$hit farangs that fall in love with and marry hookers usually want and have kids if they haven't divorced by then. Or, if a hooker wants a luk krueng (for financial gain), they'll let a stupid farang cum inside them and there you go.
But there is more and more decent, educated Thai girls marrying educated non-whoremonger farang guys, thus producing many more of the luk kruengs.

"Producing the Luk Kruengs" ? You make it sound like we're some kind of product on a factory line. What you're saying is highly offensive and wrong. The proportion of children born with thai and farang parents from marriage I would say far out numbers the proportion born to mothers in the sex trade. Prostitutes are just a tiny minority in Thailand, we have a whole country of Thai women who will marry whoever they like...whether farang or not. There are Luk Krueng children all over the world and in Thailand who can vouch for this. What you're saying is just inflammatory, rude and misguided.

Luk kruengs are a commodity to many people, you must admit. Who wouldn't want a baby who was LK?!! I certainly would. And of course not all LKs come from bargirl moms. Even if they do, big deal. They (LKs) are who they make themselves to be anyway.

Perhaps that is the reason why I subconcsiously hold some kind of distaste to some leukrungs, many of those I known back home were children of prostitution. I understand its unfair for us to blame them for the actions of their mother as well as the indecency of their 'fathers'; however, that mindset is there.

I do agree that there are some luekrung thais that are of legitimate marriages of both foreign and local thais, however, that number is miniscule to the amount of pregnancy caused by prostitution.

Let us be realistic about this. It pains me to even talk about it, but this is something WE as a community abroad should discuss.

The number of Luk Krueng born from legit marriages far outweigh the amount who are born from prostitution. How does that even make sense? The population of prostitutes in the country is tiny compared to women who aren't!

Firstly, you need to emphasize on which country you're talking about. The overall LK population around the world far exceeds those the amount in Thailand, there is no doubt about that. And I know for a fact that LKs living abroad are a result of an honest relationship between a Thai and farang (there are of course some few exceptions, but not significant enough to draw attention). The reason as to why many Thais (mostly women) move abroad are because they are married to/have married a foreigner. I can safely say that out of the 10,000 Thais that recide in Stockholm alone, 75-80% are married to Swedes. And many of them have LK children. And none of them are the product of prostitution.

And yes, this topic is also getting to me. And LuvBangkok, if you're not trying to offend anyone with your post, try harder.

You dont have to get so angry about this. Its a mere discussion, charlee. I, who grew up for a long time in Ayudhaya and in BKK, can tell you that most of the Leukrung Thais that I have met had single mothers. Albeit perhaps those that I met that my cousins introduced me to were bad examples, but my family in general (and many other thai families hold this view--particularly military families) has always had reserved feelings towards Leukrung Thais. There is a sense of conservancy in my family, where familial ties, old lineage and blood relations are still taken into consideration, something that most leukrung thais do not share due to their foreign blood lines. Nonetheless, I personally DO NOT condone the bias look towards leukrungs, however, it must be placated that the mindset IS there, specially in the military and politics (IM NOT TALKING ABOUT THE MEDIA/ENTERTAINMENT). Remeber Thai law, one cannot join or ever serve in the military so long as his/her father is not a thai national, doesnt matter about the mother. As for Thai politics, it is thesame.

Jia, and Charlee, I ask you two to remain calm in this thread. It is something that must be discussed; for thais and thai leukrungs.

No one is pointing any fingers at anyone, Siri. I do not decline the fact that some LKs are born as a result of prostitution between Thai women and farang men. They do exist. And 99% of the farang men abandon the woman they impregnanted, leaving the unborn child with an uncertain future. I have heard many horror stories regarding these poor souls. There is a part of me that can understand as to why some Thais see LKs as a living reminder of those Westerners who come to our Kingdom to do bad deeds.

BUT

As you have said, there is a mindset on this issue. A mindset, a frame of thought itched into the subconcious of many Thais. And it's a mindset that must be proven otherwise. The majority LKs are NOT the result of sex trade. Thailand probably has the largest amount of LKs in terms of percentage for ONE country, but overall, the numbers of LKs worldwide far exceeds the amount in Thailand. And a vast majority of those LKs in question are the offspring of legit interracial marriage. I'm an example of that. Charlee is an example of that. And all my LK friends are an example of that. Thailand is nationalistically explosive, but it's never been a closed country. Foreigners have never been a strange phenomenon, and we are used to see farangs everywhere. Yet despite that, I find it strange that LKs are looked upon with reservation.
