is filipino arnis martial art used in the movies during fight scenes much, because when i watch most filipino movies it looks like its just random breaking a bottle bar fights with some drop kicking and stuff, doesnt seem very arnis like... oorr the fights look like they are cheesy imitations of chinese fighting complete with that soundeffect when they punch at the wind... icon_confused.gif

anyways, why not sell the filipino martial art in the filipino movies by promoting it in the fight scenes?

I read somehwere that in North america more non filipinos (aka white ppl) are taking up the sport than actual filipinos. I think that there is a fair amount of promotion for it..somwhere. Modern arnis seems so really watered down from what i have seen back home as a kid and the stuff ive read about. I saw this one filipino movie where the hero was up against a hapon he used "iron" sticks lol, talk about lack of research lol i was like wheres his binangon or pinuti hahaha.

Bruce Lee's movie GAME OF DEATH used arnis which featured Guro (the Phil. version of Sensei) Dan Inosanto, who was also Lee's instructor. Dan's character was a villain, so it's not really a ringing endorsement for the art...

The Pinoy movie KAMAGONG (which starred current Senator Lito Lapid by the way) is the quintissential arnis movie. I saw it so long ago, I couldn't remember the story anymore, but as a snot-nosed kid during that time, I remember twirling my own sticks and beat up some banana trees in the back yard.

Recently, the movie THE HUNTED (with Benicio del Toro) featured not arnis or kali as the world knows it, but another version/style: Sayoc Kali knife fighting (I got it on bootleg DVD just for a look at Sayoc Kali).

It was used in Bruce Lee’s movies, Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo III, the second Matrix movie where Neo fights all of Agent Smiths in the basketball court, and I think Troy with Brad Pitt. I think there’s more B-rated American martial arts movies made in the early 90’s where they used two sticks/two swords. Some American police departments learn arnis for riot control or to take down suspects along with hapkido. There was a former navy veteran and cop in my city that taught Arnis in his dojo when I was a kid but I’m not sure if he’s around. There’s another dojo that teaches arnis in my old neighborhood but it’s a lame martial arts school. My friends easily beat them in several competitions from other dojos in Tae Kwon Do and Karate. They teach arnis throughout North America, Europe, and the middle east taught mostly by non-Filipinos.

If I remember correctly, in the movie "Kamagong," Lito Lapid's nemesis is Ruel Vernal. I think J.C. Bonin is also in this movie as a rebelious kid, whose brother was killed by Ruel Vernal during the comptetion. J.C. Bonin wants to revenge his brother's death, so he asked Lito Lapid to teach him, but Lapid's declined. So, J.C. Bonin went to Manila and found someone who teach him the arts. When he face Vernal on a match, he was winning, but Vernal cheated. Vernal was about to kill Bonin, but Lapid interfered and he challenged Vernal to a match.

Another movie is the "Mano-Mano 3: Arnis, The Lost Art," starring Ronnie Ricketts, his nephew Bruce Ricketts, who is an expert of the art.

Also, Efren Reyes Jr. made a movie about Arnis, but I don't remember the title.
