Dutch foreign minister Bernhard Bot attends the Independence Day ceremony in Merdeka Palace, symbolising Dutch acknowledgement of guilt over its two military aggression against the new Indonesian state during the war of independence (1945-1949). Ben Bot was born in Jakarta (then Batavia) in 1937, was interned by the Japanese for three years, and was forced to move back to Netherlands due to war of independence in 1947.

Hows all my fellow indonesians doing ... i made some time to go to a flag raising at the congen's place the other day. Was very good ... felt very proud.


How was everyones 17th ? I went to the local indonesian restaurant to eat expecting to see alot of people there but there was none. I guess this weekends bazzar should have alot of activities ! biggthumpup.gif

the dutch goverment have just "known" that august 17th is indenpendent day of our country!
years ago.. they thought our independent day was in 1949...the one the "gave" to us.

For the Dutch goverment December 27th 1949 was the "handover of sovereignity", that's all. To keep this as an historical date has more to do with politics than reality. Now memories are fading away politics are showing some realism. But it is more important for the Dutch than to the Indonesians.

^Makasih purnomor. August sure is a busy time what with all the independence days in our region. First Singapore's, then Indonesia's, then Malaysia's! Majulah Malaysia, Dirgahayu Indonesia. beerchug.gif Not to say that our two nations won't keep having all the hiccups in relations along the way, but as we say it here, sedangkan lidah lagi tergigit...
