Biography (excerpted from http://namieamuro.fateback.com/bio.html )

Namie was born in Naha City, Okinawa on September 20th, 1977. Namie's parents divorced when she was only 3, leaving her mother to raise her and her brother and sisters alone.

At the age of 10, Namie discovered Yoshie Hayakasa, the first Okinawa Actors School student to become famous. Full of admiration for Yoshie, Namie decided to follow in Yoshie's footsteps and attended Okinawa Actors School. She walked for 2 hours every day to attend the school, because her family could not spare the money for public transportation.

At 15, Namie along with a group of classmates decided to form a group known as the SUPER MONKEY'S. Their first single "Koi no KYU-TO BI-TO / MISUTA- U.S.A." was a moderate hit debuting at #28 on the charts. The group then decided to relocate themselves from Okinawa to Tokyo, after all, their record label Toshiba EMI was located there.

Once in Tokyo, the group released 2 singles "DANCING JUNK" and "Ai$hite MASUKATTO," but the singles had little success. Once the 4th single, "PARADISE TRAIN," was released, the group changed its name to 'Namie Amuro with SUPER MONKEY'S.'

Once the 5th single, "TRY ME ~Watashi wo Shinjite~," was released, things began to change for the group. The 5th single was a big hit, and instantaneously made the top 10. Because of the song, the group was invited to attend the huge annual show Kouhaku Utagussen.

The 6th and 7th single, "Taiyou no SEASON" and "Stop the music," continued the success of the 5th single, debuting in the top 10 and top 5.

Namie officially went solo in the summer of 1995 after she signed a deal with Avex Trax and began working with the legendary Tetsuya Komuro. The remaining SUPER MONKEY'S were asked to make a new group: Musical Active eXperience a.k.a MAX.

In October of 1995, Namie released her debut solo single, "Body Feels EXIT," which was a huge success debuting at #3 on the charts. Before long, Namie was everywhere. Soon, thousands of fans began to imitate her style of miniskirts, platform boots, and dyed brown hair. They were known as 'Amura'.

Do you have any more information about her divorce(?) and child?
kunomchu
I like Utada Hikaru better.
PiNk MaFiA
her divorce let's see....rumor has it that sam was cheating on her and spending all her money....and that sam's parents didn't like her because she was an entertainer (he comes from a family of doctors and they like own a freaking hospital) and whenver namie got into arguments with her in-laws sam wouldn't side with her....but i believe wat was released was that she asked him if she could work more (like release more stuff...because she was releasing things really really slowly) and he said no...then she asked for divorce...sam originally had custody of the child...but they would both raise haruto because they both live in the same apartment complex...but just a few months ago namie got back custody of haruto because she wanted to be clear on who's raising him...seems as though namie was raising haruto all along and that she didn't abandon her son like some people think...that's basically it
skat3r
I actually got to meet her in person for about a minute.

Nice woman.

I think Namie is SUPER pretty and can sing very well!

I really enjoy some of her songs such as 'I Love You', 'Ups and Downs', 'No' and so on. However, i don't find her very talented since her singing isn't particularly good as she hardly seems to put in any energy and can barely hit any notes (probably why all her songs are so easy to sing). I was also kind of disappointed to know that she doesn't compose any of her own songs yet despite that, her music is VERY catchy and i think her newest album is one of her best. It's also great to know that she's catching up in the music industry once again.

Shortly after the start of her tour, it was announced that she would contribute to the Japanese theaterical release of the American motion picture adaptation of "Sin City (film)." After viewing the movie, Namie made an offer to the Japanese distribution company to sing the theme song to the movie. The company felt that her image fit the movie and accepted her offer. When director Robert Rodriguez heard Namie's contribution to "Sin City" he asked to be a part of it, amazed at how well it fit the movie. He can be heard saying "Welcome to Sin City" at the start of it. The song entitled, "Violet Sauce" is about love and violence and will mark the first time that she has ever recorded a single for a foreign film. Currently, Namie is popping up in homes across the nation in animated ads for Lucido-L hair wax products. "Violet Sauce" will be released commercially sometime in the fall.

I am still completely blown away by Gack's live performances...I mean, he always sings live, and everytime its always perfect, it seriously sounds like he's lipsyncing but he's not...plus the awesome and powerful choreographed dances, moves he does while singing with all his heart his very own and very great rock-, upbeat song and ballads. You gotta give him credit for that...amazing entertainer and artist, love all of his albums to death. biggthumpup.gif

Namie is a great entertainer, but I don't always have the mood to listen to rnb and hiphopmusic, but her dance, popmusic is great, like body feels exit and say the word, and such.
Her dances are cool, but not that original.
