Full Version: Stuff That Filipinos Do To Make Them Look Bad

By knowing or identifying the stuff that Filipinos do to make them look bad, we can therefore avoid doing these things and move forward as a proud culture and nation.

1. Always late in appointments. - Most call this as "Filipino Time". Try to avoid being late.

2. Procrastination. - Or to put off intentionally the doing of something that should be done. Filipinos have this bad habit of trying to postpone anything. Why not keep a strict schedule and stick to it.

3. Crab Mentality. - Especially Filipinos here in America - they tend to push their fellow-Filipinos down. I'm all for healthy competition but please not this crab mentality thing.

4. Filipinos trying to disown their heritage. - this is so damaging to our culture. Nothing could possibly be worse than this.

5. Any more?

I think it is time to deal with the bad things that we do to make us look bad and correct them ASAP.

I opened a topic at the AF Lounge "What do you think about Filipinos" and I got this reply from AF Super Star Jareth Chong.

"I once overheard two non-Filipino Asian gay men talking about Filipino men. The first gay man said he would never date a Filipino man. The second gay man asked why. The first gay man replied: "What's the point of dating a Filipino man? They're too feminine and soft. I might as well date a woman."

This may not be very relevent to the topic at hand but I just thought we Filipinos (straight male or female, gay, lesbian, young, old, fat, thin, tall, short, whatever) should know what other cultures think of us. It is interesting and quite informative (sometimes).
kunomchu
hehe but how can you tell which is truthful and which is right? some ppl can be stupid @$$ racists.

Er.I have a few good filipino male friends. Your list is actually fairly accurate - especially number 2.Plus female filipinos i know - some arent very complimentary about the way the filipino men treat women in general... biggrin.gif .Mind you every country has its "quirks"

As a non-biased observer that has a bit of experience with peoples of the Philippines, here is my opinion.

Philipinos are liars. They lie about everything. And right to your face and without shame. And they will lie even wehn it is super easy to prove the lie. Its like preprogramed or something

Philipinos would sell out the next door neighbor (another philipino) in a heart beat. And not even for their own gain, just to do it.

I'm in high school here in the states and seeing my fellow Pinoys, many of them are very popular, and smart in my school. I mean I go to a school where Filipinos have all the good rep above all asians, from pop culture, sports, to academics. But what I've noticed is that some have turned themselves in to posers. Now I admit I can sometimes get all wanna be Korean but at least I admit it and I don't say I'm partly Korean or whatever. I know a lot of Filipinos from my school who would claim that they're partly Japanese or Korean so people would think they're cool. What I don't get is that why do they have to do this if Pinoys actually have the best rep in our school? So yeah that's what I've noticed about most Filipinos in my school. bawling.gif

Filipinos/as I've know through the years have always been class acts.

Each was proud to be who they are and of their heritage.

Each was honest, hardworking, loyal, openminded, and friendly. Each I could trust in any regard.

I wish more people weren't so tied to the clock. My brother's wife is from Guam and from his point of view they look at "appointments" in the same way. He adapted and in fact prefers this approach...less stressful.

Maybe just coincidence, but that is my experience.
cuteangelika
Filipinos are very good in adapting... Ive noticed that when a Filipino goes out of the country, he's/she'd be very obedient and careful of the rules of the country. But when they're in the Philippines, they dont follow their rules at all. In Singapore, Filipinos would never spit or throw garbage in public but in the Philippines, these same Filipinos would never care and do their garbage-throwing wherever they want. Im embarrased to say but my dad is one of those... when he's out of the country, he drives really carefully, scared of the police, but when he's in the Philippines, wow, faster than a speeding bullet in traffic jam! He seldom gets caught by the police, and when he does get caught, he easily worms out his way out of getting a ticket.. icon_sad.gif I always tell him about this striking difference and he answers, "Filipinos can get away with it in their own country, but outside, we have to be careful."... and I say, "but we should be even more careful in our own country, as it is our own, and we should respect our own rules." and he goes, "How can you respect the govt, when they cant even respect themsel ves." ... and the argument continues.. icon_sad.gif

An attitude I've been seeing on this board is that to be proud of your mixed heritage is bad. It's seen as denying your filipino culture. But why is it more right to deny your other background? Shouldn't you be proud of both?

oh no it's absolutely not bad to show cultural diversity if your race is mixed but you don't have to invent it. I'm talking about some people who just invent it. I mean for example, I have one friend in my school who's Filipino. When we were in middle school he told me twice that he's pure pinoy, and now that he got back from the philippines from summer vacation, he claims to be Filipino-Japanese-Korean-Chinese. Is it because he got colonialized too much by Asian novelas? IDK. The point is it's disgusting because a lot of my non pinoy azn friends notices it and it's becoming a stereotype of Pinoys in my school.

But you know, I understand that a lot of people find it rather shallow and pathetic to think about these things. I guess it's just high school drama or something like that. I'm starting to lose interest about it too cuz if that's how they want to pretend, oh well.

Amazing, isn't it? For some twisted reason, some feel that being "pureblood" makes them somehow better.

Being a pedigree doesn't make anyone better...in fact it magnifies weaknesses.
halohalo
Things that make filipinos look bad is the lack of unity between us, that regionalism thing i guess, colonial mentality, not being proud of who u are so u have to say ur mixed spanish/hawaiian/chinese (not all but some do this), the acceptance of the way things are like in the phils even if its really bad, bahala na attitude, the worshipping of stars/celebrities to the point that they wud be willing to elect one as president and still remain popular among the masses despite his ineffectiveness and corrupt ways as president, and dat goes for the marcoses too who are still in politics to this day, the destruction of natural environment juz to make easy money, looking down at other filipinos juz coz deyr poor etc.

I doubt anyone is claiming that being pure is better...since there is no such thing as a pure filipino(its a nationality not ethnicity).....most of us(well me anyway) is saying is that...I don't give a fukk if your great-grandfather was Col. Mustard from europe...anything more than 1/4 should be Irrelavant to who you are which is filipino...cuz $hit i don't hear anyone claiming to be 1/18 negrito, Lumad like they do for their whiter ancestors. cool30.gif

How about the fact that filipinos are OBSESSED with looks - in the Philippines, anyone can get on TV as long as theyre lightskinned or goodlooking, regardless of talent. People who are darkskinned or ugly are shunned and looked down upon. Its not a very admirable trait in a race of people, such shallowness.

actually, judging from all da commercials and all da celebrities ive seen back in PI, i think its true. Being white or yellow i guess seems to be predominant. I rarely see, if any, any darker skinned celebrities in PI. Compared to the US, I think PI is more discriminating. At least ders celebrities of diff. colours u see in da US, whereas in PI all u see are white/yellow ppl in da media.

Um depends, I've seen some morena celebs. If you seen the movie "Say That You Love Me" you would see that Jennylyn is morena skinned there. And some actresses and actors like Katrina Halili(she got a tan), Allesandra De Rossi, Joey Marquez, Raymart Santiago, and Richard Gomez are all morenas.
As for commercials, duh if your selling skin lighteners your obviously going to use someone with light skin.

In my opinion.... every Filipino should represent their country and show a kind face... Represent the Philippines my brothas and sistars...

The only times when other Filipinos are embarrasing is when they go Filipino this and Filipino that to those that don't care... Hey, I like to share some of my heritage, but only if someone gives a crap.

OK, that sounds fair. Nows hows about if someone called you a Ch!nk constantly, You'll still walk away?

Btw, i had no idea you were half something.... I just used that word, since for ie in england, soon as they see some yellow person with slanted eyes they immidiately assume you are a Ch!nk..

Also, theres nothing more embarrasing than Filipinos fighting amongst themselves in order to try and look good in front of everyone else but keep hush hush when they are fighting something else.

I'm brown and proud, and half chinese is an overstatement. I'm part Chinese; I don't know how much because my father's family never admitted to being Chinese, but we clearly look it though. I don't really have slanted eyes, only when I'm sleepy or when the sun is on my face.

I hear Chino cochino more often though... means chinese pervert, but in a less derogatory way.
