I... actually like this show. It's pretty damn awesome!!! Haha. I was surprised to find it on Nickelodeon. It's very silly.. and somewhat creative. I like it. Sadly.. I keep missing the episodes.
Loving_Senpai
It may be a kid show, but you must admit that the ablities of the characters are bad @$$. I like it, I also think it would make an awesome anime.
oxasianxromeoxo
yea although its a kids show i admit i like it too. nothing wrong with that. i wouldve continued watching it but i switched my cable plan to basic cable, so now i only get stuff like the news and fox and TBS. so yea no nickelodeon or cartoon network for me anymore :'(
lilazndude
It's not an anime since well, first of all you find it on Nickelodeon. It's better than children anime but worse than real anime, so I guess it's in between.
Suijen
IT'S WAY BETTER THAN REAL ANIME.

This show rocks.
herc
i see it on tv sometimes. the animations aren't as smooth...
Gatts
it seems really weak.... the character design are kiddy
Suijen
^ Take a look. That series is awesome.

I especially like the use of the "two protaginist" system.

Prince Zuko is like a non-whiny version of Naruto,.
Dpham313
i can't believe something this awesome was on nick. its a very good series. surprised me. u would figure this should have shown up on cartoon network along side with teen titans

I thought Avatar is way better than any anime I've ever seen, and I don't even like anime or any cartoon show all that much.

Currently, it's the only show I follow and watch on TV. (I usually only watch movies and DVDs; I only watch cable news on TV.)

Yep, I actually think its better than a good deal of anime out there. biggthumpup.gif
Is it me or is anime from the 90's better than from the new millenium?
Suijen
^ Yeah, I'm with you.

^^ Hell yes, i just can't believe that much animation goes into one show.(episode)
Most animes do not, i repeat do not have that much action as this show does. And the idea is just pure fun.

I love everything about it, its the color and fluid-ness and so graceful. Its like watching pieces of Mononoke and Spirited Away.

Best Anime/Cartoon on right now.........-well i just rent the dvds

Most cartoons, (American and Japanese) do not have much action period. It's really hard to animate fights scenes but what most anime lack in quantity the make up for in quality. The good anime fights usually have better staging and more in-betweens.

Primetime American cartoons are made for children so the fights can't be as brutal as the Japanese stuff. You'll rarely see someone die in a fight, spew blood, have torn limbs, and shattered bones. Some fights in American cartoons are pretty cool but the most memorable animated fights I've ever seen have come from anime.

did u know dante bosco is the voice of the main character madcool.gif

dante bosco is the phillipino guy in that new movie Take the Lead biggrin.gif

I'll just say this, anime whatever the hell it may be sometimes cut to many corners,Yes what they lack in action is made up for by story, bla bla... I really don't care if it has "MIND BLOWING MEANING" to it or what, once it's good and enjoyable. I seen alot of anime and some i just find drawn-out and boring, No i really don't want to see the guys guts fall out for no reason, or have his head cut off cuz its "cool". Also anime lacks real humor, no not the bull$hit type falling down/big face/running away type humor..
It should be along teh lines of Tokyo GodFathers type humor, smart, a little child-ish and warm. No i'm no expert, but i know what i like, if its thought provoking fine, if its wraped in a world of meaning and wonder and all that $hit, I'll pass.

Finally, for a primetime KIDS show it sure is better than alot of the big name animes i'v seen..
AznTom
i love this show how can you say it bad...

^ Seriously, I think most anime I've seen are just slow and boring. IMHO, the quality, story, animation, dialogs and characterization of Avatar are above and beyond most any Japanese anime I've ever seen, and I've seen plenty of them. It is high-quality Hollywood filmmaking and storytelling with anime, and Hollywood filmmaking and storytelling beats the craps out of Japanese (and most other) filmmaking any day of the time. (That is why the entire Japanese film industry was slaughtered and almost wiped out by Hollywood imports and competition.)

In anime, the backgrounds are mostly static and still with little motions (to cut down the cost in animating the backgrounds.) Unlike Hollywood studios that use a proven system of storytelling, (i.e., three-act storytelling, systematic structures, formats, theories, etc. for stories and characterization,) Japanese storytelling has very loose formats and is on a hit-or-miss basis. Some anime hit the right points, while other miss. Anyway, I'm not getting into the discussion of filmic arts and appreaciation with people who are untrained in the forms.

The quality of every episode of Avatar is on par with any Miyazagi's animated movie. The color is bighter and more vibrant than any Japanese anime or American animation for TV. The background details and animations in Avatar is amazingly alive: the water ripples, trees and grasses move as the wind blows, background people walk and talk in the back of the main characters and foreground actions.

I was also surprised that Avatar -- a television series -- also uses quite a lot cinematic storytelling techniques instead of the common television techniques. (Well, at least in the first season.) I recognize Avatar uses many montages that are common in cinema (and very uncommon in television.) The storytelling is also more structured and streamlined than most any Japanese anime (and certainly any American cartoon.)

Here is the real shocker: a huge amount of research has been put into Avatar. I recongize the show uses actual ancient Chinese scripts and writing system. The show uses actual Chinese martial arts for its fight scenes. I've seen the "making of the Avatar", so I know that its fightings and actions are based on actual martial art performers. The show hired real-life martial artists in China and then video captured their performances for each episode. That's for each and every episode. Then, the show artists painstakingly drew (and exaggerted) the fight scenes based the video captures of the real-life performances. That is just how much efforts the show has put into the animation. So, tell me: which Japanese anime has ever put in that kind of effort and research?

I had never bothered with Nickalodeon. The first time I disovered Avatar, I was flipping channels. When I came across Avatar, I actually thought Nickalodeon was showing a Miyazagi film. When I found out it was an animated series, I was simply shocked by the quality and amount of works that were put into each episodes. In the quality of animation and fight scenes alone, Avatar already surpasses any Japanese anime series. Being a primarily a movie watcher, I rarely if ever watch or follow any TV series. Right now, Avatar is the ONLY show I watch on TV.

Hollywood films have high quality productions but it doen't mean it's better than Japanese or any other foreign films. Infact for an industry that pour so much money into movie productions there's only a fraction of the movies that are good.

Anyway Avatar is definately the best animation series that came out of the US since I don't know when. I can see they have some anime influences, but with amazing qualities.
Gatts
the animation style is more on par with teen titans than things like poke mon

Of course there are craps coming out of Hollywood. However, Hollywood still OVERALL produces the MOST AMOUNT of good entertainment products and the BEST of them in the world -- in both absolute and relative terms.

Anyway, Avatar is actually drawn in South Korea. The story is written by American writers and producers, (and an Academy Awarded writer at that, and you really can't compare the average anime with one that has an Oscar winner on its writing staff,) but the animation is done in South Korea.

There's nothing special about having animation done in South Korea. Almost all animation gets shipped to Korea, but they only do the low end stuff like cleanup and in-betweens. All the concept work and production stuff is done in-house.

You're definitely overrating the animation on the show because the timing on some of the animation is a little off. That's the problem when you send stuff overseas though, you get a lot of communication problems and the director can't check the animation. All Disney and Pixar stuff is in-house so the directer gets to oversee all of the production work. A lot of anime is also in-house as well, so some of their stuff looks pretty snazzy.
