I only know sushi, teriaki, and miso.
I'm not a big fan of wasabi. I like teriaki and miso, however. I also like the way they do their swordfish.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Someone also made a thread similar to this, but with Chinese food. And this one is Japanese.
Interesting topic.

Anyways, I think that Japanese food is alright, I just don't like Sushi that's it. But other then that, it's good food. But I still prefer Chinese food better.

I love Japanese food because I so rarely had it when I was young. Mostly when visiting my relatives. Not sure about the rest of the world, but Chinese people seem to own 95% of the Japanese resteraunts in Canada. (Meaning they prolly like having something different than 'the usual stuff' too. Everybody likes something different. I also love Chinese food =)
I hope I get to visit Vancouver sometime soon. The Glico outlet is there. I can buy Japanese food/candy at wholesale prices! (Pocky! Curry! Caffiene Gum! That delicious heart shaped Caramel with the little toys on top!) I wish my last visit there wasn't so sad.

I liked it before the liking of it was taken over by the leftist/liberal American unculture. Now, given historical background, as well as the consumer base in the States, I stay as far away from Japanese-owned restaurants as possible, except for when I go to smash in their windows, Kristallnacht-style.

That's an awful thing to say. Not only are you attacking something because of race but you'd also most likely be smashing in a Chinese owned resteraunt too.

It's supposed to be moldy beans or something.

Natto and Miso are similar. They aren't moldy. They are fermented soy beans. Actually, I've tried a southeast asian dish that had the exact same stuff. Forget what they called it. Thiers was red and some claim it tastes like wine.

Edit: Miso is a flavouring that is usually white/yellowish. Natto is a reddish sauce with whole beans in it. The SE Asian stuff is red paste.

4 me it depends on the chef.
even though i really enjoy japanese food...sum pplz tend 2 try imitate it n it comes out really crappy.
japanese food is generally lightly flavored, (though i've tasted sum really weird spices...Ahh~i hate weird spices><)
most of their food is about preserve da natural flavors while blendin other crap into it dat emphisizes da dish...i think...

In general it's pretty good. I never liked Japanese food but my trip to Japan in 1995 really changed my mind. Authentic Japanese food is usually really really light in flavor though which is not how most Japanese restaurants are here in the U.S.

i usually see hispanic guys cooking it, except for the sushi ^^;;
as to the strong taste,i think its the same for every cuisine, well nearly..for example
if youre chinese, you wont go out the chinese restaurant to get a taste of the food, same can be said for thai and japanese ^^;; my point is that you have home made meal already and its better as well, since its not catered to the taste of the white(or whatever) people

I wish I could try some traditional style food but all there is around here is the Americanized stuff. Had traditional style Chinese food not long ago, have to say that it is my favorite kind of food now. Much better than the greasy-spoon Americanized stuff.
