Who heard the "Sorry Song" before? I heard people say he had a bad accent.
ham_let
never heard but would like to hear.

personally i think it's one of the hardest accents to master. you really do need to take on the voice of a filipino fob to get it right. embarassedlaugh.gif i'm joking. but still, there are a lot of elements in the tagalog language that only sound right when said a certain way.

Brian McKnight? eek.gif For real?

i never heard it, but i'm thinking that there is some sort of influence, because usually American artists don't just go and make up an Asian, let alone Filipino, songs outta the blue. filipino gf, he was in pi, etc?

He has been around for years. Have you heard "One Last Cry" or "Back at One"? Even if you haven't heard those or remakes of his songs, he produced before he did that.

Brian McKnight:

This is "So Sorry": http://rapidshare.de/files/4589765/Brian_M...rsion_.MP3.html

The story behind why he sang it in Tagalog was that he is good friends with a Filipino singer and he was in the studio with him one day and heard him singing in Tagalog, so he figured he wanted to too. embarassedlaugh.gif

i was watching chowtime na one time (its the most horrible show ever its basically filipinos with skin whiting complexes trying to imitate american rap and hip hop dance moves) anyways there was a black guy singing in tagalog and i was like whoa who is this.. then after he finish his song they cut straight into a comerical break and they never mention him again... i was like wtf icon_confused.gif

'Filipino' is Tagalog that incorporates slang and English words. Authentic Tagalog has very few foreign loan words used in it, thus we differentiate between 'Tagalog' and 'Filipino.'

Ohh ok. Now I know him, just after now. Before that, I had no idea who this guy was embarassedlaugh.gif Thanks for the link. His Tagalog is still very understandable albeit the heavy accent, lol. It gets the message though. I'm guessing this is like a break-up song or something. "I'm so soohooraay....kung nasaktan man kita yoy di sinasadya." I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you. Damn I stink at translating, haha.

I'm sure it's pretty typical for people to cite Wikipedia as a source, and I'd hate to do it myself, but here's what I'm basing my presumption with.

i tihnk someone on AF explained that filipino is the national language, which incorporates spanish and english into the tagalog language. the tagalog language was used as the base of the naitonal language because that is the language that is spoken in the NCR.

EDIT: i d/led it. this is bad. icon_confused.gif the way he's pronouncing I and U is weird. it doesn't match with the filipino accent.

btw, in filipino music, is the glottal stop used?

glottal stop as in:
basa--> read
baSA--> wet

EDIT2: btw i think the reason his I's and U's sound weird is because in filipino, the I sounds VERY close to an E and are sometimes used interchangealby, same with U and O.

Ohh, right. I get it now.

I don't listen to Filipino music nowadays, but I reckon they use those glottal stops. It totally alters the entire meaning if you don't implement it. I don't blame him though. His first language ain't Tagalog. I'm sure we all started somewhere (for those whose first language isn't English...like me embarassedlaugh.gif).
