Damn, I thought alot of the active people in this forum would be Pure Japanese. Either Fob or American. There's so many topics....

So all you half Japanese.....are you pretty in touch with your Japanese side? Like as much as a Japanese person would be? Or is it just in your blood? Just curious... icon_smile.gif
Suijen
I think most of the half Japanese here are actually Japanese Americans with blood that reach waaayyy back in the states. They're a dying breed I tell you.

I have beef with mainland Japanese, not Japanese-Americans. They are no way responsible for what happened in China. Not even indirectly. Well, a few, but that's it.

No-one can ever be as in touch with their Japanese side as much someone living there, that's ridiculous. In Japan you live differently to the UK so no matter how in touch I am with my Japanese side I cannot be as in touch with it as a Japanese person living in Japan. Being half doesn't make you any less in touch with it unless the parent didn't bother to teach you about it, if they did then it is purely the location that changes things. However I would say I am very in touch with it, I go at least once a year.
Eclectic Asian
so the only full japanese is ogumo and skat3r?

why aren't japanese people joining AF?? is it because people like red alertz and nanyang (and others) are running around??? sure.gif

that weird japanese pics thread (a while back) was very unnecessary icon_neutral.gif sure.gif
Suijen
There just aren't many Japanese people hanging around these kinds of sites. Just not interested.
kunomchu
japanese don't care about other asians.
Suijen
^ I joined becauses I wanted to talk with other Chinese people about politics. I wanted to know about popular opinion and stuff like that. Now I'm hooked to this damn place.
kunomchu
too bad there are alot of idiots and lil kids who dont know jack $hit about what they are talking about.
Suijen
^ Heh heh, you're so bitter. Why so glum sugar-plum? Is it because we're hateful enemies?
kunomchu
Enemy? You are a rival!
Suijen
Yes, and because we are eternal political rivals, we shall spite each other beyond the grave. Our children will despise each other. Our armies will slaughter one another. This is the wheel of hate that we are in. This eternal damned life cycle of pain and hatred, revenge and satisfaction.

I bet their off on Kanji/hiragana forums embarassedlaugh.gif

Well, yeah I guess..most Japanese Americans have really socially advanced into American society because they been here so long, same for Korean and Chinese......kinda different from us Newer Asian immigrant groups.....that have small communities and large populations in the inner cities. So what I really meant was, do you guys have a big family with cousins, grandmas, aunts etc. that are Japanese......

ok sorry for being misclear. i meant where a good size of its users are negative towards a certain person or thing, etc.
kunomchu
I'm negative toward japanese leadership and their government, not to their culture and/or people.
Eclectic Asian
well then you are not one of those "users"

offtopic: why does nanyang accuse you of being cambodian?
Suijen
The only bashing comes from within the Chinese board. The Japanese fellows are safe in the other boards.

I totally agree with what tak said, theres so much you can do as there are culture differences between 2 places, i would say im not too in touch with my japanese side really, but that doesnt mean im less japanese in anyway. although im not sure if im answering your question correctly ^^;; since im not sure what you mean by "in touch with your japanese side" question, you meant culture-wise or tradition-wise?
SunZi
There's just not that many overseas Japanese, unlike the huge Chinese diaspora. AF is pretty much overseas asians.
nanyang
The Japanese wannable here especially Taiwanese will be very dissapointed with the poll as only one people is pure Japanese. Taiwan_Honbura going to cry. Sad.

I restated what I meant...Like do you guys in the US, have lot's of family and relatives like uncles, cousins, aunts, nieces etc that are Japanese and maybe follow Japanese traditions either in the US or in another country? I guess, Fobby or traditional relatives like Us newer Asian immigrant groups that still have small communities?

Well I live in the UK, people here are generally less 'into' their ethnicity than Americans, we don't make such a big fuss about it here. Both my parents moved here for university so they are very British and my mothers family is not traditional in their mindset but they are in practice to some extent. I have found that Japanese people in general are a lot less traditional in their mindset than other asians and seem a lot less bothered about having their own community unlike Koreans. Almost all of my Japanese relatives live outside of the UK with the exception of some cousins (part of the same family) and their parents. A lot of my relatives are spread out in different countries. And yes some of my relatives are Fobs.
Eclectic Asian
i still wonder why there's not a lot of full japanese members on this forum...

It varies and can often tend to depend on how many generations have been in USA.

For instance a 3rd or 4th generation Japanese-American person is less likely to be in touch with the Japanese laungage and cultule than a Japanese American whose family have only been there a generation or two.

Conversly such Japanese Americans tend to be more in touch with being Asian than many Japanese from Japan are guess it has something to do with having Ancestors that were stuck in internment camps by Americans cuz white Americans of that time didn`t like or trust Asians much.

Because they usually stick with their own kind.
kyosak
Look at the population of Japanese-Americans compared to the rest of Asian-Americans. Not very big.
