I have seen a few Indian films recently and all of them have singing and dancing in it.
Even the serious films like the last one I saw Jisim which was a version of basic instinct and quite serious they suddenly statrted going into a song and dance routine for no reason it really seemed to spoil the mood somehow.
Whats with all this music even in serious films and do all Indian films have Music in them or is that just a Bollywood trend?

Jism is no way a serious movie. Mahesh Bhatt can't make movies to begin with. Besides singing and dancing have been part of indian movies for a very long time, and they offer escapism for many poor of india.
Some good movies I suggest for starters:
Company
Sarkar
There are quite a few good movies, but i can't remember them right now.

So its kind of traditional then?
Okay thanks and I will keep a look out for those movies you suggested.
LOL about Jisim I guess I meant Dramatic rather than serious

Yes I agree sometimes the music is very good and the dance scenes but as you said in a horror movie? seems kind of out of place there even more so in high tension Dramas since it is very unrealistic.
But from what the person who posted above your post said it isn`t all Indian movies that have music.

Man it was so out of place! The girl just saw a bloodcovered ghost
and ran to her husband in total panic. The husband didnt believe her and it upset
the wife more because they were already so estranged from each other. Suddenly
the man starts to sing "Remember when we had those happy moments together?"
I just felt embarassed
But in general, i like the singing and dance scenes. If it ruins the movie, then i
simply just skip the songs =)

i personally love indian music videos. even though im korean. i like the dancing . even though some of the music videos are similar with plot: guy sees pretty and shy girl and he pursues her. she flirts but in a shy way. and then the guys and girls have a dance off. and the boy and girl find love

Those 4-5 hour movies seem too long for my taste. People who watch them in india dance to the music scenes in the theater. If the movie doesn't have a music scene, then the people will feel cheated out of their money and time.

Hollywood doesn't have to tell Bollywood a thing!
Bollywood makes more movies than Hollywood and is extremely popular.
B-wood is a league of its own, so why should it change it's style just because
of Hollywood?

I don't think bollywood makes more movies than hollywood. Most ppl mix up the entire Indian Film industry with bollywood. I do know that the Telugu film industry makes as much movies as Bollywood, with tamil following closely, then bengali or kannada or whatever is next. So, it would be better if someone has actual breakdown of number of movies made by each movie industry in India.
I really doubt bollywood makes more movies than hollywood.

I think I have an approximate number of bollywood movies that were made in 2004, and that is about 247 movies. Tollywood makes about 100-150 movies a year, I will try to get tamil releases.
Can someone get number of hollywood movie releases per year?
