Ulchi Mundok of course, who else could have won at such impossible odds against the Tang superpower? This shows time and time again that Koreans are a strong willed people throughout history and even today.

Not a single vote for Kim Yusin?

Here are some short descriptions of these people.

Liao sacked the capital of Koryo twice. But in the third Liao invasion, Kang Kamchan defeated a 100,000 man army at Kuju, and expanded Koryo territory north, ending the Khitan threat to Koryo.

Kim Yusin was a descendant of the Kaya royal family and a member of the Hwarang order. He won many battles against Koguryo in a Paekche-Silla alliance. Later, he defeated Paekche and Koguryo in a Silla-Tang alliance, and then he defeated and ousted the Tang army, unifying the Korean peninsula. He is considered a historical traitor in North Korea.

Paekche was crumbling against the Silla-Tang alliance. Kyebaek, fully knowing that his country was doomed, killed his family, and went out to meet the enemy. Outnumbered ten to one, Kyebaek was defeated by Kim Yusin at Hwangsan, one of the most famous battles in Korean history.

Ulchi Mundok successfully repulsed a million-man invasion led by Sui Yangdi. He feigned retreat repeatedly to wear down the massive invading army, and to lure them deeper into Koguryo. At Salsu he defeated a 300,000 man army, forcing Sui Yangdi to retreat.

Tang Taizong invaded Koguryo, defeating many Koguryo cities. His invasion was stopped at Ansi fortress, where Yang Manchun withstood a siege of more than sixty days, ending Tang Taizong's goal of conquering Koguryo. Yang Manchun is also famous for defeating a siege by Yon Kaesomun.

Yi Sunsin was undefeated in twenty-some battles and never lost a single ship. In 1597 he was arrested and demoted thanks to his political enemies. Without Yi Sunsin in command, the Choson navy lost all but twelve ships in a single battle. Yi Sunsin was reinstated, and he led thirteen ships to victory against a Japanese fleet of 133 ships at Myongnyang. He was hit by a stray bullet and died at Noryang, the last battle of the Imjin Waeran, where a Choson-Ming allied navy destroyed hundreds of retreating Japanese ships.

Some honorable mentions... Kwak Chaeu, who led the guerilla resistance against the Japanese. Kwon Yul, who defeated the Japanese at Haengju. Kungye, who founded Hu Koguryo, which would later become Koryo. Pak Wi, who defeated the pirates at Tsushima, ending the pirate threat to Koryo.

Yi Sun Shin- he sank hundreds of japanese ships without losing a single ship. He wiped out more than half of the japanese army in one battle and made the ultimate sacrafice to protect korea. He gets my vote.
