Full Version: How and when did you got into Jpop?

And also who's the first artist you got into?

Pretty self explanatory.

I got into jpop about 6 years ago, because at that time English pop was crap. So I tried to look for something different and I heard that japanese music was rising in popularity over in Asia (this was way before the Korean wave). So I found lots of info and mp3s over the internet and eventually got hooked onto it. The first artist I liked was Aikawa Nanase.

Ok now's your turn.... icon_wink.gif

Hmm......Haven't really listened to J-pop in a while.....more into J-rock....but I first discovered J-pop around late 8th-early 9th grade....Got interested in it from some of my friends...My first artists were Hikaru Utada and Ayumi Hamasaki.....then later on in 9th grade I was introduced to Dir en grey...and so now my whole attention is focused towards J-rock instead.

I was 13. It's kind of blurry now, but it actually started with anime midis. embarassedlaugh.gif

Then I listened to Utada Hikaru, Hamasaki Ayumi, and BoA. I said "Oh! That's cute!" and I listened to more and got addicted.

through a japanese music-variety-programma I downloaded just for fun, and through anime.

It showed that there was an entire professional japanese music-industry with diversity and originality.

During the summer. I bought and Ayumi Hamasaki "My Story" CD as an additional one to 2 Chinese CDs when I was in T.O and then didn't listen to it until the summer. Then I got hooked on it.

Although I liked Utada's earlier songs...

Heard a Onitsuka Chihiro song, "Gekkou" on that Japanese series TRICK. After that I got into Japanese music. Good to culture yourself.

sure.gif Ehm, well I could say īLol, Chinese songsī, but we both know that China has really good and entertaining artists, singers and groups and such. And I find it the same with Japan. But Japan has a more developed, music-industry with more diversity, I think. Or more commercialized, but thatīs what I like.

Ancient Chinese people had different standards of beauty.
Tang dynasty didn't like thin women for one.
It was elegance that SEA could not match.

I've seen plenty of good looking Chinese, Japanese and koreans but very few good looking southeast asians.

Her voice is so good, kind of a female Gackt-voice, but singing more slow and upbeat songs instead of rock, but I think she would do good in rock too, like Gackt is either good with ballads, pop, rock or whatever. But his voice seems to have changed, but still one of the best ever.

megaupload is acting like a b!tch now, so you'll get it some other time.

and their style? they're a boyband... some upbeat, catchy songs, some solo's, some ballads, some random english, but of this album I like Rain and Yes/No the best.
They are very good dancers and entertainers and have reasonable good voices, but Ohno Satoshi has a very nice voice, the guy who sings Rain.

and I'll be adding a surprise...*grins*

actually, i like listening to both chinese and japanese songs.

for chinese i like F.I.R. (fly away, neverland, lydia, etc.) and S.H.E.
and david tao (is that the correct spelling? anyways, his one song susan is nice)

for japanese i started listening to it when i was watching a lot of gundam wing and found the music catchy. so i listened to more and more of the songs and more anime and their songs and then it leaked into jpop and the i started listening to them. mika nakashima is great and also chihiro yonekura. also day after tomorrow, etc.
