i havent completly finished watching it yet just the first 8 episodes and i think its a lot like fullmetal alchemist (loved that as well)in the sense u wont find out exactly whats going on till the last few episodes.
but basically i think its ur classic bad guy wants to take over the world and needs something (in this case the girl Al) to achieve his goal. the heroes Claus and Leiv? want to protect her.
but the reason i really like it is the animation. its the perfect blend of traditional and CG and not overdone like AppelSeed. Plus the OST is also quite catchy.
i really recomend u watch it cause so far i think its really good.

not all the time, but every now and then
the intro is hilarious
especially the host, who refuses to have his voice dubbed embarassedlaugh.gif2
and the cooking part is actually fairly interesting
the cooks make such unique dishes, and what they are doing is usually very well explained
makes me hungry.... munch.gif

Oh, right, forgot this part...
last time I checked, it was dubbed in English icon_wink.gif

I would be honored to join this lovely establishment.

I study Japanese a bit. And yes, I do watch anime, although that's not the only reason I study Japanese. I read some manga, but not much. I do enjoy various Japanese music. I've trained a bit in Aikido. And I'm interested in Japanese culture, history, etc.

Manga is basically just Japanese comic books. The anime you've seen most likely originated as a manga, which was then animated. I don't think Japanese is hard if you're willing to put forth effort. Unfortunately, I'm quite lazy icon_wink.gif

Books are generally better sources for information than software, but the audio/visual reinforcement that you get with software is invaluable if you don't have other ways of hearing/interacting with the language. I've used Talk Now! and the Rosetta Stone softwares, but not much. If there's a used book store near you, try to pick up a fairly recent Japanese text book for cheap. And immerse yourself in Japanese media so you are used to hearing/saying the words.

I took classes, so I don't know what books would be good.
But you could try Pimsleur tapes; they're fairly easy to find in newsgroups.

I hadn't really thought about that, but I guess you're right.
Techinically, mine's 金鳥, which won't happen until I'm 60. icon_wink.gif

木鳥, I believe... that correct?

犬 and 戌 are both いぬ, but I believe 戌 is specific to the Chinese zodiac "dog". Like I said, I really am not very far along, Kanji-wise.

Jasel... I have both of those software titles that I mentioned. I have the CD images if you would really get use out of them. PM me if you're interested. I have some Pimsleur, too.

How many classes did you take, Shiro? Are you fluent/close? I've only formally taken one semester, and sadly I kind of blew it off and slacked in there. I've done a fair bit of studying on my own, but unfortunately, I tend to start slacking and backtracking after a while. I'm much too fickle icon_wink.gif

What about you, baka? Are you in your first semester?

I took the three years worth offered in high school (three one term classes), and spent two weeks in Japan on an exchange.
I am nowhere near fluent. embarassedlaugh.gif

And now I have barely spoken any for....... 5-6 years or so.
Fortunately I took a Mandarin class last year, so I can still read kanji, but they are used differently between the two languages.
There aren't many Japanese people where I live; I have one Japanese friend right now, but I don't talk to him in Japanese very often.

I speak enough to survive in Japan with, but not enough to have an intelligent conversation. embarassedlaugh.gif
It's too easy to stop practicing a language, when you're not involved with it.

I was all set to head to Japan, but my visa got declined......
Looks like I might be off to China now. biggthumpup.gif

Hahaha... baka was actually referring to bakagrl embarassedlaugh.gif

I wish my High School had offered Japanese. How much did the exchange help you? I would guess considerably so, but two weeks is quite short. I would like to do an exchange program, but I dunno how realistic that possibility is for me.

And yeah, not having anyone to practice with is a big downfall. I've tried to get friends interested in it, but none of them will stick to it icon_wink.gif

I learnt more in my two weeks in Japan, than I did in three terms in Canada.
I highly recommend doing an exchange program, if you have the chance.
Or, if you have a degree, go teach English for a year or two.
I would love to go back.

There are also monbukagakusho scholarships available, at least in Canada, to attend university, or to go to Japan to learn English.
http://momiji.arts-dlll.yorku.ca/japanese/monbusho.html
These are strictly for Canadians, but a similar arrangement may exist between Japan and other countries as well.
