i missed you ?

heh i just started learning japanese yesterday and i no how to say

odenkedeska -> which i think means..how are you?

hey there jaek_style! welcome to the forum. japanese is a cool language to learn IMO. i wanna know how to say "i miss you" too... then i can email it to my japanese friend. btw, "how are you?" is "ogenki desuka?".

I thought How are you is "genki desuka?". Well I'm probably wrong.

"Genki?" would be fine among friends. Really.

I don't know if there's a direct translation to "miss you", so I'll make a guess and say it should be along the lines of "I want to see you" or something.

"Anata ni aitai"

Edit: Actually, one could try to play with "sabishigaru", but that's just nasty.

"anata ga sabishikunarimasu", I believe...
or is that "I will miss you"?
my Japanese is so bad... haven't used it for about 5 years, and didn't know much then

try 'anata o koishiku omoima$hita' as you know you can add the 'watashi wa' to the beginning but this won't be necessary if you write it at the bottom of your letter or whatever.

There is no difference between present and future tenses in Japanese. "I miss you" and "I will miss you" are the same thing.

no, I wasn't really wondering about the tense... I already know that present and future are the same
if I wanted "I missed you" I should have written "anata ga sabishikunarima$hita"
but that sounds too polite (formal) for what was asked

there's no difference in English (well there is, but all our verbs are "to miss" anyway, so we don't notice it), but I don't know if there is in Japanese or not
