Three of my friends who have no caucasian mixture have American last names. David, Summerfield, and Collins are their last names. My old high school teacher was a Filipino man who's last name was Paulson. My coworker's last name is Ferry, my friends bf's last name is Conklin. My ex's last name was Bucini, which sounds Italian, and my cousin married a Filipino man who's last name is Hansen. I know alot more but I'm too lazy. Anyways, does anyone know why their last names are so American-sounding? My guess is their family changed their names or something...What do you guys think?

^You know why your head is messed up? Because you keep on listening to a non-Filipino named dalawapo. If the topic is about Filipinos - you should listen to Filipinos. You see this dalawapo animal claims he is non-Filipino but he is most active in Filipino Chat - in other words he probably is an ugly Filipino who tries to justify his ugliness by claiming he is Pacific Islander. Now don't react right away there dalawapo. Relax baby. I want to make sure that morons like you don't react right away and write down their emotions into scattered ramblings without coherence nor direction. The keyword I used is "probably" because I have no way of proving the existence of this creature named dalawapo... as he is just hiding behind his computer posting stupid threads... therefore how would anybody really know his race? Nobody would ever know what his face would look like unless someone would literally go to where he lives, sit side-by-side with him as he logs-in to AF using the dalawapo account. Now having said the above facts, since we really could not prove how dalawapo looks like (i.e. whether he looks like a polynesian wrestler or not) - we could only make deductions about him through his postings. Now assuming that dalawapo is honest and that what he claims himself as a Pacific Islander is true, then heres the first question: Why is a non-Filipino pacific islander so active in Filipino Chat? What are his hidden agenda in being active in Filipino Chat?

not a surprise. there are many French that gone to Spain. There are parts of Spain and France where miles apart they speak different language. ie Catalunia.

also there are many Portuguese and Basque last names in Filipino, ie gamboa, pacheco etc.

Hmmmm...Faber sounds German. Perhaps you descended from someone who was a native of Deutschland.

BTW, I've seen a lot of half Germans/Austrians back home, especially at the Catholic school I attended. There were Frankenberger, Sternberg, Frantzen, Becker to name a few, nevertheless they were all fluent in Filipino. This one guy Frankenberger, he looked really white, and we used to tease him by calling him ASO as in German Shepard. laugh.gif We treated him well though, except for the occasional teasing. icon_neutral.gif

My last name is Spanish, but that doesn't mean I am of Spanish descent.

The story goes like this. My great great grand father joined a rebel group during the Spanish occupation, so he changed his last name to a Spanish sounding name, so he wouldn't be as conspicuous to the Spaniards tracking him down. Obviously it worked, but nobody is certain what his Filipino last name really was.

I guess it's a long story, but no matter, I've only claimed to be pure-blooded Filipino and nothing else. My father's boss, Fabian Ver have a bit of an odd last name, too.

Most likely those people have mixed blood somewhere down the line even though they don't look that mixed. It's very rare for Filipinos to have American sounding last names unless they're somehow mixed.

there are a few filipinos who have German names because a few native Filipinos took up the name when they travel in Europe and changed their names to escape persecution from Spanish when they come home. Ie Tirol, from "Tyrolia".

I find this photo very disturbing. (the one with the caucasian man pointing the gun to the head of the young Asian girl) ................I hate to think of the number of Filipinos and others from SE Asia, suffered at the hands of Euros for barbaric reasons. I have many friends who have, themselves, suffered unimaginable fates and have been forced to witness the demise of loved ones.

The answer could be any one of a number of reasons. Unfortunately, history is full of groups of people who invaded the Philippines. It's like the Native Americans here in the US. Many of them were forced to take Spanish sirnames in order to survive (those on the west coast---east coast NA's suffered worse fates by the hands of Euros).

Every part of the planet is, in some way, shape or form, influenced by the British, French and later the US.

It's a scene taken from the movie Platoon.
