I was a refugee and lived in Bataan for a while. I want to go back and visit the camp if it's still there. If I land in Manila, how do I get to Bataan, anybody know?

· The easiest, most comfortable way to get to Bataan from Manila is by ferry service from the docks near the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC), available daily. These ferries can reach Bataan in just 45 minutes.

· For road transport and access, there are many buses that ply the Manila to Bataan route regularly, with Balanga serving as the hub.

· Balanga, Bataan is about an hour's drive from Clark and Subic, and about 2 and a half hours to Manila.

· Balanga, Bataan can be reached within 20 minutes by helicopter from Manila. Helipad and airstrip facilities are available for air transport.

At the height of the Indo-Chinese War in the 1980s, the Philippines played a major role in the worldwide assistance of dislocated victims of aggression from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia.

When several other Asian states were sending "boat people" away-the name these victims were identified in history- the Philippines opened its doors to shelter men, women and children who fled from the horrors of war.

The wooden fishing vessels these "boat people" took, such as the one now displayed in the plaza of the old Philippine Refugee Processing Center (PRPC) of the United Nations in Morong, Bataan, which housed some 400,000 Indo-Chinese refugees, remains a symbol of humanity's continuing struggle for freedom -not only from the bondage of political strife, but also from social structures that perpetuate poverty and injustice.

The Bataan Technology Park (BTP) keeps the memories and lessons of war remembered in the 365-hectare PRPC. A few years after the refugees transferred to their host countries, the BTP, under the Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA), took in its hands the possibility of redeveloping the area in 2003.

I guess the easiest would be to go to Subic Bay and stay there overnight, then take a day trip to Bataan.

Whats in Subic Bay? Any thing to do ther? is it a tourist area? I don't want to venture into the unknown. Meeting other tourists feel safer.

Subic bay along with Clark used to home the largest US military base overseas, since the American Military left, the former bases was transformed into an eco-tourism and commercial hub

Condoms are widely available, but no "Trojans", altough the local "Trust Condom" brand is quite reliable........
