WHat is the future of this strange and ugly slang ((personal opinion) from manila. Will it develope into a kind of creole??? like chavacano?? an english version of ermitano???

Its just that after a 4 year drought i recently saw 2 filipino movies and man listening to those people talk (as an english speaker) is embarassing.

have u guys seen those McDonald's "i'm lovin' it" slogans thats in different languages, they used Taglish "love ko 'to" instead of tagalog or somethin else
martin_nuke
tagalog is also the taglish version of bahasa, spanish and mexican. maybe taglish will be a standard language someday embarassedlaugh.gif2

Do you mean English Carabao? Because there's a difference between English Carabao and Taglish. My parents told me that Taglish was started and popularized by this guy Ariel Oreta I think. During his time, people who spoke Taglish were stereotype as the rich, the metropolitanized or the expatriates. Today that stereotype is slowly dying.

English Carabao on the other hand was popularized by Jimmy Santos. It's the dumb version of English (in my opinion). It's like Commonwealth English spoken in wrong grammars. Another similarity to English Carabao is the African Pidgin dialect spoken by the African slaves before and during the Civil War in the United States.

I believe that it would be very hard to change Taglish because it has already influenced our culture so much that we already need it. One would sound very dorky if he says "Ano ang numero mo?" instead of "Ano ang number mo?"

On the other hand, English Carabao is still young and can be changed by the media and the schools. If you guys haven't noticed, the media should be the one to take credit in all of these "language evolutions." We should change it before other Asians who aren't really popular of knowing English start looking down on us when they've overlapped us language wise. It's one of the few things we can brag about and therefore we should take care of it. DRAMA!!! lol

i love taglish

I agree with anyone who says it's gonna turn into some language one day. Because the way it sounds, and the wide usage of Taglish, it surely does sounds like it's gonna become some creole-like language someday.
oanari
Kris Aquino is one of the promoter of this language. biggthumpup.gif you can see or hear it on her shows. or even in her commercials

personally i think taglish is pathetic. i mean why can't folks choose one way or the other? like a lady who'd say to PUJ driver:

"manong can you make para to the side naman, i'll going baba to the esquinita"

jeez lady wtf? if ur a guy i'd smack u in the face, but then again its not my language.
LazyAzian
I am fine with Taglish. My only problem is that why do they promote such a language that deteriorates the original Tagalog specially in news.

Why not just use the Spanish or Tagalog alternative words, why English? I myself I don't say 'Gusto ko mo gamit sa computer", I say "Gusto ko mo gamit sa computadora".

I find Spanish or the original native words itself more fitting. With English it just sounds weird, specially for one that English was never part of our culture. I say instead of Taglish, why can't it be "Tagpino", "Tagano", "Bisalog" or "Spalog".

I keep editing hehehe. Ummm I find the use of English words very "ugly". It does not fit with our language at all. In fact, the Americans might start looking down on us becuase we are starting to speak horrible English becuase of this pathetic Taglish. I think we should start using Spanish words or create our own words for modern things. Like why can't we just make our own word for cellphone, or use the Spanish word computadora than "computer", to me it would sound way better.

That's what people are saying tagalog is the official language of the Philippines ???

And some say English is the official language too when people speak English, there's a tagalog too in the middle.
