i like utada better. my reasons:

1)talented
2)individual
3)writes her own songs (usually i don't really care about this, but i'll write it anyway to add to my reasons... )
4)has a cool voice
5)when she sings english words, it's understandable (the first time i hear japanese engrish during a song, it's funny, then after that it gets just plain annoying)

anyways......both artists are good in different qualities... they sing with different styles, which are also good too... overall i chose Ayumi....because she has a wider range in her songs whilst utada sorta sticks with a similar style in her songs...(note: some)....and when she tries a new technique....

I would vote for Utada Hikaru, since she's my senpai at the school I go to, but, if you listen to her talk on talk shows and stuff, you really get the impression that she's not that smart (even though she went to really good college in America). I like her music sometimes, but even as a Japanese person, I can rarely understand what she's saying. I really like BoA for several reasons: She's same age as me, she's really smart (she became the bridge between S. Korea and Japan at political events and met with Koizumi and Kim Dejun (how do you spell?)), her songs are catchy and she's very cute. Hamazaki Ayumi's music is really good but I think her time is starting to pass.

I LOVE JPOP! The thing is that some of Ayumi Hamasaki's songs sound VERY squeaky and sharp; which makes me want to rip out my hair. Though some do sound very nice. Utada Hikaru is great but her voice is a little raspy and her song are repititive (don't get me wrong I still like them).

Boa IS HORRIBLE! BOA needs to be sued for killing songs. Listen to her performance with Koda Kumi (the meaning of peace)! She's off key (not in her albums) during her live performances. She's horrible.

I wonder why Koda Kumi isn't on the poll... Personally she's my favorite and the majority of my friends as well. She's got a great voice. No mistake about it. Her songs are nice and up beat. My favorite one now is "Real Emotion" featured in Final Fantasy X-2! Her songs "So Into You" and "Till Morning Comes" are excellent!

Namie Amuro is great. I love all her songs except for "Can you celebrate" She's a classic and a new sensation at the same time. She looks BEA utiful!

i'm not really into japanese music, but i love ayumi hamasaki, i think her voice is sooo unique, that the moment when u heard her song, u know it's her, that kindaf...and she can activate one's life! Above all, what i admire is her exaggerate, blasting styles, she dare everything, amoeba

I dunno I like them both equally.... They both have their pros and cons and their both talented in their own ways The only thing is I probably couldnt stand ayumi's voice for an extended period of time--- I could probbly stand Hikki's voice a lot longer

as much as i love hikki (almost as much as my gf) that guy/girl (didnt pay attention to name) is right...sumtimes on talk shows she gets at a loss for words and i hear "ano..ano" a lil to much...is it cuz she cant think of JP words as fast as American ones?? hmm dunno, thats a lil scary...

lately i have started to listen to ayumi alot, her music videos are easily the best things i have ever seen in my life (as far as music vids) they tell a story (SUCH A STORY AT THAT) its really nice....the Voyage one is a personall fave. along with the other one with the lil blonde haired american kid--cute

Ayumi Hamasaki her voice is unique and a bit squeeky, but it goes well with her awesome melodies, tunes, beats, lik M, Season, and other great, catchy, emotional songs. She´s a good lyricist.

Utada Hikaru very talented, makes good music, has a cool voice, some great songs, but somehow I never got into her music

BoA Very good dancer, I never buy her albums, cause she always has 3 or 4,5 good songs on it and the rest is meh her voice is cool, has a good chance to make it to worldfame, if she can speak english more properly and if she gets a bigger chest

Namie Amuro
Very pleasant voice, good dancer, really nice, catchy songs, like ´say the word´, I thought she sang Say the world´, but anyway, ´No´ and a lot of other songs on her latest album are very cool. I bought her album.


Hitomi
Her japanese girl single was awesome, really catchy. and the lovelife version of ´there is´ rocks. She´s talented, makes good music and is a good dancer, great figure, btw.


Why the hell isn´t Mika Nakahima placed on the list?

Or Mai Kuraki
or Chihiro Onitsuka she is kind of like a japanese Jewel, but she isn´t, she Chihiro Onitsuka with a really beautiful powerful and soulful voice, great compositions, very talented, makes very good music, pretty too.

I think Ayu and Hikki balance out, so I can't choose.

Hikki's voice tends to sound whiney although her production is good, Ayu has addictive tracks as well but it's hard to take her songs seriously...although her singing is steady and has gotten better....so I guess I choose Ayu.

Ayumi doesn´t compose her music, but she has very good and meaningful lyrics.
If she did both, she would be musical genius. A lot of the melodies, arrangements, compositions are really good and catchy, like ´M´ and such.
Chihiro Onitsuka is a musical genius, and Gackt.
