As I young laddy I used to love the Japanese TV series Monkey (Monkey Magic) that was filmed around the late 1970's.
It was based on a 16th century Chinese quest story called (Hsi Yu Chi = Journey to the West).
The tales set back in 630AD with demons and monsters who tried to stop the Tang Priest Hsuan Tsang (Tripitaka)
from reaching a Buddhist monastery in India to retrive the Buddhist scriptures. It was a really kewl series
and Monkey loved kicking demon and monster butt !! Very enjoyable series

Hsuan Tsang (Tripitaka) actually lived and really did go to India in 629 AD to get Buddhist Scriptures.

The acting wasnt the best, or the special effects, it was still funny and enjoyable to watch lolz

looks like a old chinese movie. since its japanese its probably laughable to the extremes.

Yeah I've seen it. Very funny, but not entirely faithful to the original storyline.

This series is really really cool! ive seen it, in indonesia. It aired in Indosiar, and people LOVED it! the story is really funny too!!

There is also an anime (which I love) and an american movie Journey to the west (which I love too)

Holy cow, I forgot about that show. I used to watch it all the time as a kid. Loved it!!!! Thanks for bringing back some memories!

Truth Master, yes the tv series was based on the chinese story "journey to the west" but the tv series was Japanese
