Phnom Penh, Oct. 20 (VNA) – China has reconfirmed its pledge to provide 48 million USD in preferential loans for Cambodia, which will be used to upgrade a 124km section of National Highway No. 78 that links Banlung Township in Rattanak Kiri province to Strung Treng Township.

This was announced by Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen upon his arrival in Phnom Penh on Oct. 19 following his attendance at the 2nd China-ASEAN Trade Fair in Guangxi province, China, where he met Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong.

During his official visit to Viet Nam from Oct. 10-12, Viet Nam also agreed to provide Cambodia with 26 million USD in soft loans, which will be used to upgrade a 70km section of the highway that links Banlung Township to the two countries’ border, PM Hun Sen said.

He emphasised that over the past two years, he has visited China five times and the relationship between the two countries is currently good. China praised Cambodia’s political stability and its progress in economic development. China pledged to provide assistance for Cambodia in various fields and encourage Chinese investment into the latter.-Enditem

This is great. I wish countries in this region could develop their economies together. I'm hoping this highway route would benefit the two Cambodian provinces from the transportation economy along the Mekong.

I can hardly wait when Cambodia becomes another Chinese province.

What would China be "using" Cambodia for? This isn't the Cold War era when Vietnam was China's enemy. What would China have to gain now? I see all these posts talking about evil, slit-eyed Chinese and their conspiracies.

China gives aid to a lot of countries as a gesture of good standing in the international community. That's the motive behind it. It's been giving aid to Africa for decades, for example. I don't see Africans bashing Chinese for actually giving aid, so maybe all that aid should be redirected to Africa. Is mother India giving money to Cambodia?

I don't know why Cambodians would fear China, they don't even share a border.

I assue you I don't hate Cambodians. I have to admit that at one point my drama with menikani got the best of me (including hating on a whole ethnic gourp), but I realized that it... (I got into a car accident once, and you know who took the time to stop in his BMW to help me out? It was this gangstah FOB Cambodian dude and his wife, real dark too so prolly full Khmer. They just stayed with me for half an hour in the cold and they didn't even know me. This was all before this stupid beef on AF... The point is I don't hate Cambodians. I admit some stupid beef on AF got the best of me.)

Anyway, I make a legit point. Koreans and Viets got legit issues with China but I don't see why Khmer nationalists are so anti-China. China supported a monster in Pol Pot but you also have to look at what was going on in China at the time... millions died in the purges of the Cultural Revolution... There were no evil Chinamen sitting around trying to destroy Cambodia. These are not legit greivances. Cut the hate. It does no one any good. Aren't Chinese Cambodians good, well-assimiliated people? What's with the hate. I've seen some really always stuff said about Chinese Cambodians, like in this very thread about how they should've been all wiped out by Pol Pot. Do you know how much they and other Cambodian suffered in those times? And so many US Khmers have recent Chinese ancestors. Besides flames between Japanese, Koreans, Viets, Chinese, and their petty millenia disputes (flamers make up less than 1 % of those ethnicities on AF), everyone else is pretty peaceful... except... this forum. It forms an impression that isn't good for anyone.
