What? Vietnamese oppose this flag ? The only people who oppose this flag are South Vietnamese. They don't count because they don't have a country anymore. They surrendered. even the ussr - the epitome of communism - has changed its policies to become more democratic. communism has been tried time and time again, and it has been found lacking time and time again

1. ppl are robbed by corrupted officials,
2. most living in poverty
3. Vietnamese being viewed as cheap labor being sent to all corners of earth
4. VC don't do sh*t when Vietnamese are being abused and killed
5. most public positions are held by VC family members and relatives leaving talent ones doing odd jobs
6. new hotels, shopping plazas, and almost all big projects that YOU ARE SO PROUD OF are foreign owned and built
7. you get arrested for criticizing the gov.
8. there are no check and balance because of one party system where these corrupted officials keep making mistakes and the ppl pay for it and there is no other party to vote them out
9. almost no one wants to go back to Vietnam to "build Vietnam" when they finished their education overseas(there are some of you here, pretty sure)
10. Vietnam is 26? years behind Thailand and 16? years behind China (I read somewhere but don't remember the exact numbers)
11. there are no freedom of press, assembly, or speech
(are you glad that you are not living in Vietnam under the VC?)
12. ppl living under the oppression of the VC
13. VC gov. keeping the ppl misinformed and ignorant
14. VC sending corrupted money overseas to their son/daughter studying abroad to hide it from discovery
15. etc..and etc...

You and the VC need to wake up or stop taking advantage of the People of Vietnam.

Vietnam fought a 30 year war and had to endure economic sanctions in the post-war period is the fact that many VNCH loyalist refuse to see, they only look at the negative side of Vietnam and then starting throwing up alot of hypocritical $hit. I no longer give a damn what political system Vietnam is under, just as long as that yellow flag does not fly over our proud Capital of Thang Long/Hanoi then I'm happy.

Apparently, you know nothing about Vietnamese history. South Vietnam always believed that it was a separate country from the North. South Vietnam loyalists always claimed that North Vietnam INVADED their country. Geez, do you ever read any Viet newspaper? The Vietnamese in the North and many Vietnamese in the South united to fight against those (people like yourself) who wanted to keep the country divided and thus weakened. Even today, there are still those who want to ask for South Vietnam back. The three-striped flag stands for nothing but South Vietnam and its loyalists. It doesn't stand for a SINGLE and UNITED Vietnam.

i have no idea what the three striped flag meant in the past b/c i wasnt alive and i dont bother to read, but to me as an 18 year old male it stands for a single united vietnam under the light of democracy.

i think you are right in saying that unity creates strength, however its not the only factor, and not even the most important one at that...russia is united, and its not exactly up there with the rest of the western powers.

If there was an award for a person who love Vietnam the most, I can assure you I will take it. However, the reason I keep on attacking VNCH loyalist because they are hypocrites, only look at the negative side of Vietnam and make negative remarks towards their country, so I will leave it there until you reply again.

The injustice and discrimation are there. We are all Vietnamese and what's up with Communist people " this is my country and not yours" mentality. There are only about 2 million Communist members in Vietnam. There are positions in Vietnam required you to have communist membership so not everyone joined because they believe in Communism. My recent trip: when I emailed back to the US in Hanoi saying that "there are still lots of poor people in Hanoi", guess what happened to my email? it didn't go thru until i changed the whole sentence. Wow.... this is a government to proud of!!!!!!

Suggestion: when go back to Vietnam, notice in big tourist cities like Saigon VC try to cover up the repression by having less government buildings around, free acces to internet at hotels but they are monitoring you of course but in the rural areas are different. not all websites are allowed access to and gov. buildings are everywhere. they still have loud speakers on streets pumping propaganda messages from morning to night. they want to keep mass population ignorant. rural areas are where most people live but their education is low and this is where VC are taking advantage of them. poor rural people- they are very "hien lanh"....

also, have you notice that everything is "nhan dan" like "toa an nhan dan", "bo ddoi nhan dan", etc... but when come money, they have "ngan hang nha nuoc" instead "ngan hang nhan dan". that says it all, right?

Everybody have rights and they are undeniable, so repression is not the way and I don't support it. At the same time, I don't tolerate those hypocritical crap been broadcast regularly by the members and supporters of the old Saigon regime.

You keep bringing up Vietnam government corruption, but you must remember, the government of VNCH was not so perfect either. Vietnam is a Third World nation and corruption is rampant in all poor nations, even in poor countries where people actually get to vote.

So really, just because I believe in the system does not necessarily mean I like the gov't to repress its people, sadly people like you just don't understand that. And Vietnam belongs to all Viets, nothing can change that but when a small group of Vietnamese permitting foreign armies to kill their own countrymen with the same blood, should that be considered as Vietnamese?

About civil servants: the tiny pay check doesn't justify bribery: IF the top officials stopped deviating incomes from taxes and State companies, the State would have more money for civil servants wages. Secondly , If the state employed efficient people , less people will be required to run the state and there will be more money for less people. Thirdly, public employment attract incompetent and lazy people in spite of low wage because they look forward to the easy earnings they will have from bribery and embezzlements they will commit one on duty !!!

There have been a number of economic studies demonstarting that plethoric state workforce means high rate of corruption .
