In Quote:

On 23 December, 2001, during his annual birthday meeting with reporters, the emperor, in response to a reporter’s question, remarked that he felt a "certain kinship with Korea," and went on to explain his feeling as resulting from the fact that the mother of Emperor Kammu (736–806) was a Korean. The emperor noted that Koreans who immigrated to Japan in ancient times introduced culture and technology, and then called upon his countrymen never to forget the regrettable fact that Japan’s exchanges with Korean have not all been so friendly.

I was just wondering if any heard about Emperor Akihito's link to Korea. Although this is somewhat old (around early 2000 or 2001), I was told that many Japanese did not know about this because it was not reported in many of the national Japanese newspapers.

The current Emperor and Empress are good people. Akihito is NOTHING like his father Hirohito. He is always doing humanitarian events in Japan for the physicall and mentally incapacitated. beerchug.gif

Most Japanese were Koreans 2300 to 1750 years ago. And Korean influence has trickled into Japan in plenty since then. That's not to say that the Japanese have their own unique culture, but denying the historical link between Japan and Korea (and the rest of East Asia) is like denying the historical link between the USA and Western Europe. Who knows, in 1500 years, maybe the Americans (assuming they are still majority of European descent) will say that they were native to North America.

Anyway, kudos to Emperor Akihito.

Koreans and Japanese denying they were once linked during ancient time is pretty comon in both sides of country

By the way, I don't belive that info. And probably most koreans also don't believe what that emperor is babbling about.

What are you talking about?
Rad Raz
