If the Thais want to be modern military then have to spend more money for every decade. If any country keep continue to buy war materials from USA, RUSSIA. The US and Russia will be richer and richer. Remember that they will not sold the secret weapons and atomic bombs. Look at the Irak. They bought alot of modern weapons technology, the most superior country in the middle east but they can't defend themself. The result Sadam has been hanged. Let's look at the army of republic of Vietnam, the most powerfull army in southeast asia during the war time but then the US stop sold or cutting military aid, the result the army of the republic of Vietnam has been lost.

We need our military to protect our nation, and we cant build our own equipments because it will cost a lot. It is cheaper to buy it, and to be correct, we havent bought any military equipment from Russia. And obiously they wont sell their best weapon and atomic bomb, and we wont buy it just because it would creat one big hell of a problem.

Who d o you need to protect your nation from? Will Vietnam, Laos or even China attack Thailand?

We need military to defend our nation from terriosts, attack from other nation. and to youre second question, I cant answer that....

Burma will attack from the north, Vietnam and Lao will attack from the middle, Cambodia will attack from the south, and the ethnic Malay will attack from southern Thailand. Thailand will be DOOM within 5 years

my grandpa is a sergeant 1st class in the USAF
he uses a F-16 bomber and was recently in iraq, he is now retiring
my family is very loyal to Thailand though

Royal Thai Air Force will raid major cities in Burma and that will be especially easy since they are going through kinda a civil war
Royal Thai Army will destroy Cambodia's major cities
Royal Thai Navy will join forces with China's navy and US's navy and attack vietnam from the West and march to it's major city without casualties since Vietnam's army will be too scared( if that doesnt work we'll just let USA destroy them)
Royal Thai Special Forces will send in some units to burn villages and kill livestock in Laos along with some tanks to destroy it's major city
Most of Southeast Asia will be occupied by Thailand in 5 years except we wont do that cause we're peaceful

Besides Vietnam is problly too tough for us to handle since they have 1 war every century,
therefore they are more experienced than us in combat and have too many troops.
They prooved themselves in the Vietnam War.
Although we are one of the most advanced in Southeast Asia we would get owned by Vietnam

My other grandpa was a police officer but he passed away a long time ago
He was not that high ranked but he was one of the bravest ppl i knew, he took 3 bullets for a fellow police officers

We train with the Royal Thai Marines in an exercise called Cobra Gold. I'm hoping to go to it in 2008 before I leave the Far East.

Yes I am USMC stationed in Okinawa for 2 years. I leave July 2008 but I'm in korea for 5 more months. If I get go to Thailand for the exercise, I'll just take a vacation for 3 weeks to go there to train in one of the muay thai camps. But i read about how we train with the Thai Marines all the time and it gets me more pumped for next year.

Indian, Thai armies to hone counter-terrorism skills in September

New Delhi, Aug 9 (ANI): Indian and Thai armies will be conducting a joint exercise near Ramgarh in Jharkhand next month, which will focus on counter terrorism tactics.

The joint operation involving close to a total of 100 soldiers will closely follow Indian Army's first ever joint military exercise with China and will be an effort to "coordinate measures in a comprehensive and sustained manner" towards combating terrorism.

In June this year, Thai Prime Minister Surayut Chulanon, during his visit to New Delhi, called for increasing defence ties with India as part of its 'Look West' policy.

Both countries recognise that terrorism constituted one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, and had resolved to strengthen bilateral cooperation to combat terrorism.

Meanwhile, Visiting Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on Thursday met Foreign Minister Pranab Mukherjee and discussed bilateral issues.

The Thai princess is on a daylong visit to New Delhi to witness Thai cultural celebrations marking 60 years of India-Thailand ties.

She is scheduled to preside over a performance of the Ramakien, the traditional Thai version of the Ramayana, to be performed by Thai artists here. (ANI)

According to the picture shown by sirikittong, Thailand Marines and Army are already outdated in equipment. Mostly are second hand except those Stingray tank .

StingRay tank is the only tank that is only use by one country and that is thailand. No other country adapted the stingray. Too sad about the logistic and spare parts/

dont talk bull s--t. You talk like the Thai army is the most deadliest in ASEAN region when in fact it is not.

You forgot that there are other country in ASIA like Indonesia, Vietnam, Sri LANKA ,and Philippines who have soldier that has far better experience in war than your Army. Thai Army and Marines are untested in real combat.
You also forgot that Taiwan and Singapore has an impressive array of weaponry and when it comes to the best special forces among ASEAN, Malaysia and Philippines has one of the toughest.

Not all of them are second hand.

Gov't dont give a $hit about military and this is what you get.
