Indians are some of the most hospitable hosts I've ever met. Whenever I visited someone's house, I was well looked after and treated like royalty.

However in public, the majority of Indians act like complete wankers. Courtesy goes out the window - it's a case of pushing and shoving to get to where you want to go.

Don't even get me started on driving. I challenge anyone to find a driver worse than Calcutta motorists. Every day in the paper, you read about a poor victim of a road collision. The pollution is immense, destroys everything.

I love India very much and am happy to see some level of progress towards development. Central Calcutta has become quite cosmopolitan, there's a lot to see and do. I can only hope that eventually, the public will change and behave in a more polite manner.

If you were a girl, you would probably be whining about the "eve teasing." icon_wink.gif

There's no sweeter smell than an Indian train station biggrin.gif

Sorry to hear you had some bad experiances, I guess I'm used to that sort of stuff whenever I visit.

Sorry if I made it sound like I was whining. Despite my comments, I did actually have a fabulous time and would gladly visit right now if it were possible.

IMO, India's the best country to visit, full stop.

It's more of an observation - the behaviour of Indian public, particularly at airports. A couple of Sihks pushed in front of me during a security check. I gaurentee if they did that in Scotland, they'd probably get a thumping. This is just one example, but I suppose it's the way everyone's been brought up.

I wouldn't call the experiences "bad"... just surprising and different to what I'm used to. I know not to be so surprised next time.

I agree about the smell of an Indian train station. Want it in a deodorant. biggthumpup.gif

the first time u go to india, there is a lot to get used to...even if ur indian, it's still a bit of a culture shock...but it is a great place to visit. the next time u go u'll have a lot more fun, and the things that surprised u the first time, wont even be a big deal the second time around.

does the overpopulation make things unbearable? i mean the culture always seems fascinating and the food exotic.....but everything i've seen about india on TV, etc make it seem so overpopulated that it would be really uncomfortable........

No, its only in the big cities where you see enormous crowds of people. If you go out into the country, smaller cities are not so heavily populated. Even when it comes to big cities, if you can survive in NYC.......you should have no problem in Mumbai....lol embarassedlaugh.gif
