I have been invited to a Thanksgiving party. One filipino told us about kids from rich families were kidnapped while going to schools in Manila. The weird thing was that they had to hire a group of soldiers as their kids' guards. Is it that serious? In your capital city? Why can't you do something with those kidnapper?

yes kidnapping is very rampant today in the philippines in fact one of my uncles was kidnapped a long time ago and my lolo had to give a ransom of P200000 to the kidnapper.

the most notorious kidnapper in the philippines was ROBERTO YAP, Philippine-Chinese former medical doctor who became one of the Philippines' most wanted kidnappers after being shot by police; in Dinalupihan, Bataan. Yap has been connected to at least six kidnappings this year, and victims included his own neighbors and former business partners. There have been more than 100 kidnappings in the Philippines in the year 2003;

the latest kidnapping i know is by the actor Dennis Roldan with ransom cut from P250M to P3M.

i think the only group in the philippines that kidnaps tourists are the abu sayaf terrorist group that kidnaps american and european tourists but don't worry the AFP has killed its leader and i think they are not active anymore.

meh. it's not weird IMO. it happens in a lot of countries. int he philippines they pretty much target the chinese filipinos. but yea, the concept is just like in the movie 'man on fire'.

the kids are held for ransom. my mexican friend said that they chop the kids fingers one by one and mail them to the family until they pay. creepy.

an incident -almost- happened to me when i was on vacation. it still freaks me out. we got lots of weird calls asking for private information, and a relative told us something like that happened to a rich business man, and his daughter got kidnapped. >__>

they target 1st gen. chinese-filipinos because they always pay and they have no connections in the underworld...they are easy prey basically....something like this happened to family friend and they paid but months later they found the kidnappers in the jungle tied to a tree getting eaten by fire ants...since then no body fukks with his family members embarassedlaugh.gif2
