University employee suspended for 1 month for looking at porn site at work
KARIYA, Aichi -- An employee of a state-run university here has been suspended from duty for a month for viewing pornographic Websites at his workplace, thereby sexually harassing a female colleague who happened to see it, university officials said.
Moreover, the university suspended his boss from duty for three days for neglecting his duty to properly supervise the employee.
"It's indeed regrettable that such an incident occurred. I offer a heartfelt apology to the victim," said Kenichi Tahara, president of the university. "We'll launch an awareness-raising activity for employees to prevent a recurrence and regain the public's trust in our university."
In August, the female employee filed a complaint with the in-house sexual harassment prevention panel, accusing the male employee in his 50s of viewing obscene Websites at their workplace.
It also emerged that the worker, whose name was not disclosed, began about two years ago to view obscene sites during work hours. His bosses and colleagues repeatedly warned him over his actions. However, he continued to view such sites at the office while he was off duty. (Mainichi)
