I see many posts here degrade China and its citizens and feel the urgent need to issue this reminder to all: RESPECT THE LAND WHERE YOUR ANCESTORS CAME FROM!
Whether it is HK, Taiwan or Macau, all are in same family. Inner family quarrels can't be avoided but some statements must never be made in public or even appear in your mind, eg words relating to splitting the motherland or degrading the leaders of the motherland! People who do this are whom we called "TRAITORS" and will not have good ending!
China is a peace-loving country with no wild ambition. Respect China and you will be respected in return. Under the leadership of the Party and Central Government and immovable support of Chinese citizens, China has become the world's strongest superpower. Any ill attempt to separate the Chinese motherland will fail and will be condemned by Chinese all over the world! Such anti-Chinese efforts must end up with costly price and condemned in history forever!

Tung Chee Hwa's anti subversion law, the supressing of democratic rights and CCP's continual support for their puppet douche doesnt seem so great to me. Not critisizing China for it's mistakes is like stalling a river's flow. There should be continous improvements based on what the people sees as injustices or better methods of taking care of business. Only then will China be able to become the strongest Nation in the World. Look at the US, there's continuous admendments to the law; new legislature is being written and voted upon as we speak. And like a river's flow, if we stopped improving, the country will become stale, and the water will no longer be with vibrant with life. Criticism is the best method of ensuring a country is a healthy nation.
If you truly love China, then you should also become an advocate of constructive criticism.

I could care less what individuals "feel" about China. Whether someone loves or hates something solely depends on their personal experience. No amount of convincing can change it.

Yes I agree. But keep in mind that those who post offensive comments toward China and its people are non-Chinese, mostly Vietnamese. Therefore, telling them to respect the land where their ancestors came from may not be much help to your cause.

While I agree that suggesting splitting China could be seen as treason, but we should allow, and even encourage constructive criticism toward the Chinese governments, be them PRC, ROC or HK.

No major world power is "peace-loving". Otherwise they wouldn't rise to the level of a world power in the first place. But China in recent times is much less aggressive than some others, namely the U.S.

Dr. Sun Yatsen indeed wish for both KMT and CCP to work together to form a multi-party democratic China. But the civil war shouldn't all be blamed on Jiang Jieshi (Chiang Kaishek), the ideology of KMT and CCP are just too different, much like today's KMT and DPP

Fairly accurate. Chaing horded the American aid while the peasents died int he countryside. Chaing withdrew when the Japanese advanced, leavinging nobody to stop them. Corruption of the generals prevented medical supplies and food from raeching the cities. The generals sold their weapons on the black market. Don't forget a HUGE number of KMT soldiers deserted tot he CCP.

I know this isn't directed towards me, but anyways, my grandfather was Air Force KMT. [I think. Definitely Air Force though.]

Zhonghua means Chinese, or rather the Chinese identity. It was formed by the Manchu during the Qing dynasty to unify the five ethnic groups in China, Han, Man (Manchu), Meng (Mongol), Hui (Muslims), Zang (Tibetan).
Even today, the formal name for both Republic of China and People's Republic of China have "Zhonghua" in it.
Republic of China = Zhonghua Minguo
People's Republic of China = Zhonghua Remin Gongheguo

Zhongguo is "Middle Kingdom", which is the name used to refer to the "non-political" China.
