Was reading Korean section about this topic, I remembered many Vietnamese do belong to some clans especially the Northern Vietnamese. Any more informations about this?

yeah , the VC clan, didnt i tell u that its the most powerful and important clan in Vietnam right now ??

Ah... I don't believed that Vietnamese have clan. We have last name, which are loosely related on an individual ground. For example, in Japanese history, clan played an important role on an individual. Such as the Fujimori clan ruled much for the early millienium, everyone in the clan was expected to be loyal to the clan, in a sense put their clan above themeselves. In Vietnam, last name or family name didn't had much weight on an individual loyalty. During the Le Dynasty, the country was divided by two warlord, Nguyen and Trinh. But there were supporters and people employed by the Trinh warlord had the Nguyen last name, and vice versa.

I don't really know about clan-based last name. But I know there are different Nguyen in Viet history that aren't related to each other. For example, King Quang Trung's surname was Nguyen (Nguyen Hue), but his original surname was Ho. That's why when he became king, he established the "Tay Son" dynasty, not the "Nguyen dynasty"
