Americans would not only have to adapt their diet, but lifestyle too. Get rid of that SUV, you're walking to work.
Yeah, that doesn't really work in America. It takes my mom 20 minutes to drive to work, she certainly can't walk along the highway to get there. Plus, Americans love suburbia. That means we usually have to drive everywhere except around our neighborhood. America doesn't have much as far as public transportation. And we're not big on trains either. If you want to get to another city, you either drive or take a plane.
And besides, cars are a part of American culture. Cars were first used for recreational purposes, and they also represent freedom. For women, it used to mean that they could get out of the house and do things for themselves. And now for teenagers, they don't have to rely on their parents to cart them around, so they can go pretty much where they want. I'm sure you've all seen those high school movies where people are all proud of their cars, and guys try to pick up girls in them, like Grease, or something.
I personally hate to drive. I want to live in a city where I can live close to my work and can use public transportation. But that's just me.
My point is that it's not just that we're lazy. Though we often are (I know I am).
I would also love to eat more Japanese food, but I lack the knowledge and I don't live near an Asian food market. I'm also a college student, so I eat cheaply. I don't eat fast food a lot, though it would be very cheap. I eat a lot of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, lunch meat, tuna salad, and canned fruit. Oh, and frozen dinners. Yeah, not such a healthy diet...
