Was anyone there to hear Miss Hmong MN 2005's protest speech at the Saint Paul Hmong New Year?

I missed it, but I want to know what people though about her protesting.

That's fu-ked. fu-kers corrupt as usual huh.

I just read that Hmong Today article... icon_rolleyes.gif

These girls take it pretty seriously huh?... sheesh... "do dey get a $1 milrion dorrahs or sawm ting?"

On a serious note, I'd like to say that Hmong Today has always been a very biased newspaper/publication. And I usually don't trust or frequent their site for that reason.

They usually never interview both parties. They don't even acknowledge that they tried to contact the other parties. It's pretty unappealing when you are a large publication and your credintials are compromised by your lack of "ethics" when it comes to unbiased stories.

i can see why she's upset. but doing it on stage was the wrong time to do it. she just embarassed herself.

If everything went the way it is described, then it is truly sad and I applaud Ms. Hmong 2005 for fighting back. I think she picked the right venue to do it in.

She has spark...I bet she goes far.

These Hmong pagent has always been UNFAIR...Hmong people SUCK AT BEING FAIR... I think My older sister was in a pagent way back in the 80s but it was different back then.... This whole crap was a waste of time and money... Its good to enter your daughter or whatever... but just don't expect too much out of it when you win or lose.

Glad someone took this personal on stage because the committees are damn corrupt.

ohmigosh, this so f**ked up......dang, if i were the other girls on stage learning this i would walk off....this ain't something to be proud of....i feel so sorry for na lee and her family.....

i've always had a feeling that the Hmong people in charge of the pagents only choose beauty over talents and brains.....and if they have a favorite, they tend to stick to it....in this case, it appears that the favorite's parents are a part of the committee which therefore they get to abuse the situation......

i believe na lee's story because why would she and her family go out to publicly humilate themselves or anyone else?? it doesn't make sense?? unless they've gone psychotic or something........

so sad.....
xtcxyooj
and to think HMONG ppls can run a COUNTRY? WTH are they thinking... they can't even run a DAM pageant RIGHT!!!! oh well i can careless... we all live in the US and we all have our dreams... to get there you'll have to do it yourself...

“They are crooked. They threw two important parties, both of which the reigning Miss Hmong MN should have attended to greet the leaders and to have a presence. But, they didn’t call Na Lee, her father or myself. We only knew about the party on the 19th  of November because one of Na Lee’s friends told her about it. Na Lee then came to her father and I, so we decided to attend it out of propriety.

So Na Lee was upset simply because she wasn't invited to a couple of parties? Aw wow.. boo hoo.. the organization is SO CORRUPT! They didn't invite her to a few parties!

its more then just being neglected from a party.

i think that if you want to run for miss hmong pageant, your parents better be connected, they better be respected, they better be eduacted,
if they aint...dont even bother, daughters with uneducated parents who run for these hmong pageants are over looked....i know that i may seem harsh and i may be wrong but its the truth ya'll..believe me, my dad told me so.

I think it was her intention to do it on stage to produce a bigger impact to the crowd. That's usually a strategy to get the message across. It takes some one with big balls to voice something like that in front of so many people.
photonicism
i think she did the right thing...i mean if not on stage then maybe she will never get the chance to do so again...and if all she say is true then they should take responsibility.

yep yep yep...you said it!!! it is always unfair...i thought about telling the crowd how corrupted lao family is if i had pulled out that one gay question asking, "if you won miss pagent this year what would you do to help the community..." when i had participated the pagent once during merced new year...

I was doing some research on Hmong Pegeants and came across this discussion about Na Lee Xiong and the Hmong Pageant. OMG! I would have posted a response sooner had I knew that anyone would waste their time on this subject. Anyway, I realize that it is probably a moot point now since it is 2009! BUT, I found Na Lee Xiong's behavior to be outrageous and disrespectful.- I had to post a response. In my opinion, Na Lee Xiong's conduct and decision that night only proves that she was "UNFIT" for the role and failed miserably to carry out the duties of Miss Hmong 2005.

First of all, being Miss Hmong DOES NOT in any way obligate the Hmong community or officials to invite the reining Miss Hmong to each and every high profile party or event! Nor does it forbid the Hmong community or officials from inviting a former Miss Hmong or any other person of their choice to host such parties. Furthermore, being Miss Hmong DOES NOT entitle Na Lee Xiong and her family to "self-invited" themselves to each and every party concerning or involving the Hmong community or one of its leader. These were private parties being held in honor of a leader.

Therefore, none of these would be an issue if Na Lee Xiong and her parents did not deliberately "crashed" these parties and imposed on the hosts of the parties. Na Lee Xiong and her family knew they were not invited. Yet, they showed up at these parties without an invitation! As if that was not enough of an imposition, Na Lee Xiong and her family insisted on and expects the hosts to change their entire planned agenda to accomodate Na Lee Xiong and her parents? Twisted logic here!

Secondly, in my opinion, it was selfish and disrespectful for Na Lee Xiong to use the end of her term to ruin "the MOMENT" for the new Miss Hmong. The new Miss Hmong did not deserve that. The fact that Na Lee Xiong and her family did not get the respect and recognition that they "think" they should get or "deserve", does not justify Na Lee Xiong ruining the moment for the new Miss Hmong. If her goal was to embarass the pageant committee, then like carrying out the duties of her term, Na Lee Xiong also failed miserably. If she embarassed anyone, it was herself.

Finally, in my opinion, being a Miss Hmong means that you have to be the "bigger" person in every situation. All Na Lee Xiong showed that night was how selfish, self-center and crazy jealus she was of the former Miss Hmong. Her timing was wrong. Her message and behavior was unacceptable for a Miss Hmong. I think her conduct only lend support to why leaders of the community were perhaps embarassed by her and did not believe in her ability to serve as a respectable representative during those high profile parties.

OMG!
