Geisha, means person of the arts or artist, are traditional Japanese artist-entertainers. In Japan they use the word Geiko to refer such those persons.
In the 18th and 19th centuries Geisha could be seen everywhere and it still exists until today but a lot dwindling.

Geisha of Japan is just like speakers in English but Geisha also carried connotations of prostitution, some young Japanese women faced finance shortage so they sold themselves to American troops for money.

You can wear kimono and make up like them if you pay money. embarassedlaugh.gif

is geisha;s are like prostitude or do they just dance and loook nice with kimono i heard geshas's are prostitudes but formal ones
chickery
formal prostitutes are courtesans; and geisha are not courtesans.

they originally competed for the same audience (elite businessmen) in the prostitution district, therefore are confused with prosititutes often. but they perform a variety of dances and play instruments. in contemporary terms, they are performance artists.

anyone can look nice in a kimono, but a geisha's uniform, so to say, is her kimono collection.

sadly they are nothing more then prostitudes..
same as many other places in our world
icon_sad.gif
no one really likes women for what they are.
icon_sad.gif
i think the fact japanese culture is defending such a rude preception is pretty mooish and by that i mean kind of narrow and lame.
but ti's ok i belive its the same everywhere
for instance in the usa they are working hard now ,to make prostitution legal which i find as a very bad idea with bad bad taste our world is turning more and more materialistic.,,,

a geisha is not a prostitute but a geisha can be a prostitute.

and no, they are not "high class" prostitutes either.

I think ppl are confused between the mizuage part - which could actually qualify as prostitution - and the receiving of gifts or support from lovers. the point though is that not all geisha have to go through mizuage nono.gif

Maybe not in a literal sense but it's still a questionable profession no?
Not exactly progressive in a female rights sense.

They dont sell sex so they're not hookers. In this day and age its not particularly questionable...............geishas these days are not the same as back then although neither sell/sold sex anyway.

Hmmm...

Any one here ever heard of a women gang going to entertain themselves with a geisha?
........
well?
......
I guess women don’t understand much in this kind of "art" appreciation

And yeah I guess it’s rather convenient to think they didn’t sell sex it was more dependent upon the clients request nay?

These days more so because people dont know that much about it so its intriguing. Originally geishas were male then it evolved to male and female geisha finally becoming a job dominated by females thus the term is now known to the masses as applying to females only.

You dont request sex from a geisha icon_rolleyes.gif
Especially not these days. Geishas were not and are not for sex. Courtesans provide sex, a geisha is not a courtesan
Geishas flirt like all women, whether they choose to have sex with a client or not is up to them, it has nothing to do with their profession. People get confused with the tradition of choosing a danna which rarely happens these days.
Considering a geisha to be a prostitute just shows ignorance.

This is so typical for a man to reply like that.
yeah I agree that maybe in the past males were participating in this field and maybe today this occupation is much more moderated and elegant then it used to be .geisha were no doubt exposed to harm and had to somehow defend themselves therefore I tend to believe in many cases they were abused no matter how nicely you’re trying to define it, geisha may have had some sort of dignity mostly because of some of them serving as some rich men’s mistresses, geisha life with all the decoration aorund it never sounded like a secure way of living whip.gif

I dont know whether you're referring to traditional geisha or modern geisha. Traditional geisha did exist in obviously what was very much a mans world, however they're not hookers. They were not paid in exchange for sex so it changes nothing. I didnt say it was a secure way of living, a number of men just prat around trying to get them drunk and feel them up so obviously there are times when they take it too far, the women have to be rather strong in an emotional sense, it definitely wasnt an easy or secure profession.

I didnt mean it in a 'women flirt all the time' sense. I meant they are no different from other women when it comes to flirting and suchlike.
