Indonesia in CSI.... biggthumpup.gif
I know about luwak coffee when i watched CSI...
It's made from coffee beans passed through the digestive system of an Indonesian animal which is a luwak, also known as Paradoxurus hermaphroditus, but it's more like a cat than a monkey.
It's really expensive, the unroasted product costs about US$250 per kilo while roasted beans may cost about US$600 per kilo. Several coffee shops sell it at a premium price of US$5 per cup eek.gif
Anyone have try it ?
More about this coffee :

from the very little TV that i watch, i do watch CSI. but it hasn't been on for a while here in sydney. professor goran is the man! and no.. i haven't seen the particular episode your talking about.

there is use to be an ad over here, on mie goreng? or some type of mie? or was it rendang sauce? it doesn't really matter does it? ..anyways..there was an indo man, with that black islamic hat, and a sarung.. he was with his son, and they were talking in indo about how to make this particular meal. i use to get soo excited when this ad was playing, that i would stop everything i was doing just to watch this particular advertisement. so i totally get where your coming from when you see something indo in western TV programs or movies. i tend to act all estactic and all squealish when someone looks remotely indo on TV.

U feel that too ? beerchug.gif
Something like that sometime can make us be touched, especially for you who live in other country...
Thank God there's AF icon_wink.gif

There's lots of mentioning of Indonesia on TV shows these days. On Alias, there was that episode when Sydney do a mission in Bali, and another when the Indonesian embassy in Denmark was blown to pieces.

In Simpsons, there is that episode when Homer talks to Marge:

Homer: Look Marge, I'm reading the Economist! Did you know that Indonesia is at a crossroads?

Marge: It is?

Homer: Yes, it is!!

Ricky Martin mentions the word 'Mata hari' in one of his hit songs: 'shake your bon-bon'

You're a Mata Hari.
I wanna know your story.
In the Sahara sun I wanna be the one that's gonna come and take you,
make you shake your bon-bon, shake your bon-bon, shake your bon-bon.
Up in the Himalayas, c'mon I wanna lay ya.
We'll go around the world in a day.
Don't say no, no.
Shake it my way, oh shake your bon-bon,
shake your bon-bon, shake your bon-bon.

Yes, i know that song.
I thought he get 'matahari' from the name of spy women.

Matahari was a stage name for a half dutch half javanese first oriental style erotic dancer who then turned herself into a celebrated controversial world class courtessan slash double agent spy.

When her older abusive Scottish Dutch husband stationed in Java as captain, she found her roots and the sexuality in the ritual dancings of the locals.

Things happened to her life. She fled to Paris. Introducing herself as a Javanese princess (Parisians didnt have a clue embarassedlaugh.gif) and invented oriental erotic striptease to Europe.

Baz Luhrmann said that Nicole Kidman's character in Moulan Rouge is pretty much inspired by Mata Hari.

Maybe our fellow the quite romantic writer Majapahitans should write her story. Hows that bang Maja?

Anyway I have tasted kopi luwak. Its very smoothly thick & the aroma is just flavoulicious. If the Starbucks is a Marlboro, kopy luwak is a Dji Sam Soe biggthumpup.gif . Nothing can beat it. beerchug.gif

And yes Hagine, Im feeling it. Everytime Indonesia is mentioned on some foreign films or happenings I just like 'Thats my country baby biggthumpup.gif '

I remember when I first saw Silence of The Lambs, I went all exited when I read 'made in Indonesia' on the shirt of the victim. biggrin.gif

Oh ya do u know that Ewan McGregor as the infamous Nick Leeson listening to our very own Hetty Koes Endang's tune in one of the scene of Rogue Trader?

Indonesia was the setting of the final Tintin cartoon Flight 714.

On their way to Australia, Tintin's flight made a stopover at Kemayoran Airport in Djakarta, then got hijacked somewhere over Makassar, nearly crashed into a Phinisi boat, and landed in a remote Eastern Indonesian island. There Tintin and friends battled the hijackers and have an encounter with aliens.

from tourismindonesia.com

There isn't much in the way of tourism on this remote island west of Sumatra, but a "survival guide" to the hot spots of the fictional archipelago could be considered a literal lifesaver for any unlucky visitor. (Source: USAToday).

Skull Island is where King Kong was first found, it is in fact pulau Nias. A good report with plenty of photographs can be found in "DR. HAGERUPS PHOTOGRAPHS FROM NIAS". click this to read more http://nias.natmus.dk/english-hagerup.htm

A quote from the book: ?His stay on Sumatra was a year filled with wonders and strange sounds and sights that he would never forget as long has he lived. He also visited Nias where he photographed. Later he told about the trip to Sumatra ?That was the greatest experience. I only spoke a few words of the Batak language, I had a camp bed and a rifle and I lived the happiest life of a young scientist among the cannibals, in a jungle where no white man had put his footprints before me?. He wrote later on in 1931 ?on a small island, Nias close to the cost of Sumatra lives some very wild and fierce tribes. Seamen who are familiar with the area, state that they would rather go down with their ship, mouse and men, than end up among the terrible inhabitants of this small island?.

Though Skull Island was ostensibly located west of Sumatra in the Indian Ocean?a region known as Indonesia?it was far easier for the producers to suit up African-American actors than search for Indonesian or Polynesian extras. (To see wonderful pictures of the people of this region, click HERE for amazing photos from the Nias Islands circa 1915 taken by a ?Dr. Phil. Hagerup.?) Source: KongisKing

Indeed, King Kong's Skull Island is supposed to be west of Sumatra, 90 degrees East and 2 degrees North, which is a hundred kilometres west of Nias Island, North Sumatera province.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skull_Island

In the original 1933 King Kong movie, the captain specifically mentioned that Skull Island is in the "East Indies" (Indonesia), west of Sumatra. The language used by the islanders in the original 1933 movie is very similar to Nias language.

Indonesia is also the topic of Oscar-winning Year of Living Dangerously (1983). The movie, starring Mel Gibson and Sigourney Weaver, told a fictional love story set during the G30S/PKI event and the fall of Sukarno. The actress who played the dwarf, Linda Hunt, won Best Supporting Actress in 1983 Oscars.
