Teacher bashes taxi driver after spat over directions

KASHIHARA, Nara -- A public high school teacher has been arrested after he bashed a taxi driver following an argument over whether the cabby should make an illegal turn, police said.

Police said that after Kudo and his family caught a taxi to their home late Sunday night, the teacher and the driver of the cab got into a heated argument that ended with Kudo hurling the driver to the ground, where he hit his head. Kudo was apparently extremely drunk at the time of the clash.

Kudo and his family had been dining at a Kashihara restaurant and caught a taxi home. The argument between Kudo and the driver broke out when the teacher insisted the driver take a turn into a road where entry by cars is forbidden and the driver refused.
