Mom killed, daughter slashed in home

The Yomiuri Shimbun

A 51-year-old woman was stabbed to death Tuesday afternoon by a man who rang her doorbell and then slashed and wounded her daughter before fleeing, police said.

According to the police, Makiko Sawa answered her front door when the doorbell rang at her home in Sakai, Osaka Prefecture. Her daughter, Yasuko, heard her mother scream, and ran to the front door, where Makiko was lying on the ground between the front door and the gate. Makiko had been stabbed in her neck, face and other places, police said.

The assailant, who was standing by the door, then slashed Yasuko, 21, in the face before fleeing.

Makiko was taken to a hospital, but later pronounced dead.
