We just received news that Sultan Hdj. Amir Baraguir of Maguindanao (peace be upon him) was shot dead and wounding his brother by two gunman riding a motorcycle outside his house in Sultan Kudarat.

In behalf of the Royal Family Sulu, the Royal Hashemite Sultanate of Sulu and North Borneo we share the grief of his family and his constituents in Maguindanao.

The late Sultan Amir Baraguir is a colleague in the Asian Royalty League. He is an advocate of Muslim rights and working toward the total autonomy for self governing Muslim in Mindanao.

The Shari'a law follows the rule of Primogeniture, meaning the next in line should be the eldest son, in the absence of a male heir the brother. If the heir is a minor a Regent Sultan must be decided by the family or the Royal Council if there is one.

But I don't know I cannot speak on behalf of the Sultanate of Maguindanao, so let's just wait and see.

Yes I know there are a few Datus in Sabah and Datuks as well.....by the way, I don't know how many of you have seen the book the White Datus of Borneo. It is a list of all known Datus with Western origin. One of my favorite is a German Baron who was given a title Datu Bendahara the Raja of Sandakan.
