When the type was delivered the VietNamese air force pressed it into service immediately, it was very active in Cambodia from the mid-80s onward. The Su-22 replaced the F-5A/E and A-37 fighter-bombers, those types were very effective in their role in terms of ground attack and CAS roles. I heard Viet pilots hold a more favourable view towards American hardware in comparison to Soviet harwares due to the better combat suite.

The Su-22 was supposed to be a very good attack aircraft at the time. I've talked to a former Egyptian pilot who flew the plane and he thought it was tough yet pretty easy to fly though.

The Su-22 was and still is an effective aircraft in the VietNamese air force, I heard it also recieved limited upgrade to increase the life of the airframe. It is important to note that the Su-22 is very resistant to ground gun fire.

i thought the pics of VNCH soldiers and weapons were cool. if only they could defend for what they believed in. there were good soldiers and bad soldiers, but for the most part, they were always in bad shape and poor morale. it's mostly the leaders and commanders' fault. they were incompetent and lack leadership and bravery.

there were some good field commanders, too. some killed someselves when they lost a stronghold. but some fled before they could fire a shot.

if only VNCH had good leaders and commanders would the tide of the war would turn on VNCH's side.

if SVN had captured Hanoi and united the country, VN would be like South Korea by now, or better yet, Japan.

I don't know what "Ai Nam Quan" means in your post.

If you mean "Zhennan Pass", then it is not. Zhennan Pass has never been Vietnamese since it was built the first time during the Ming Period.
kpham001
^ Yes it is, there is a saying that Vietnam stretches from the "Ai Nam Quan" pass to "Ca Mau"

The pass was now part of China after the re-demarcation of the Vietnamese-Chinese border in 2000 sign by good old Phan Van Khai that yield
Vietnamese land to China.
