She's not half Japanese nor has she ever claimed she has any Asian blood in her. She's actually Welsh, Irish and I wouldn't be surprised if she has a bit of Spanish in her. She has that 'Latina' look.

She said she was often asked if she was half japanese, she never actually said that she had any Japanese ancestry. But she is half Irish coz in her bio it says that her mum is Irish. But I think she identifies more with her Welsh side.

Supposedly, Japan pays foreign celebrities in the neighbourhood of $1 million USD to do commercials.
I don't know how film promotion works, but I'd say the reason has alot to do with money.

because Japanese movie is dominated by Hollywood, while Hollywood movies struggle in South Korea and other Asian countries..

nah, I do think SKorea and China has a good movie-industry of their own, especially SKorea, wait, SKorean movie-industry IS the equivalent of or probably even better than Hollywood, it's younger too.
but other countries.....I don't know about them very much.
Japan has a very big drama-industry, they make great drama's and do some movies.
and how about american popstars? if they do go to asia, Japan is always concluded, but they leave out, say, Indonesia or Vietnam. and it's definitely not because japan doesn't have a music-industry, cause god knows they do have one, that is very awesome.

I guess Japan is very important for selling the movie-tickets, SKorea too, but Japan is just a tad more richer. And japanese fans tend to go crazy about celebrities, very dedicated *obsessed*. Oh well, I don't care, since japanese favor their own entertainment, popstars, actors and music over foreign. except in the case of BoA, she's foreign/korean, but that doesn't really count, since she sings in japanese, very well, so she's regarded as a jpopartist. most foreign (and non-asian)jpopfans think she's jpop.

american celebrities come to skorea too but market is not as big...south korea is the same as japan (middle class wise), with a large middle and upper class, but the population is only 48 million ppl.
