Hokkaido Univ. postgraduate student accused of trying to rape woman
HAKODATE, Hokkaido -- A student at prestigious Hokkaido University's postgraduate school has been arrested for attempting to rape a woman, police said.
Shimizu, who admits to the allegations, says he was irritated because he was unable to write his thesis by its Feb. 2 deadline.
"I felt irritated because I was unable to write the thesis to get a master's degree," Shimizu was quoted as telling investigators.
Shimizu forced himself into the woman's car parked in the parking lot of a retail store in Kamiiso, ordered her to be quiet and covered her mouth with one of his hands in a bid to sexually assault her, investigators said.
He gave up trying to rape her because she resisted, and drove away. The woman reported the license plate number of his car to police, leading to his arrest. (Mainichi)
