Man who failed driving test arrested for scattering nails over training course

CHIBA -- A man who scattered more than 100 nails over a driving school course was arrested on Friday, police said.

Shinichi Kato, 33, a part-time worker for a delivery company, failed his test to get a license to drive large vehicles three times in 2005 at the Chiba driving license center. Police believe that he scattered nails on the course to vent his anger.

Police came to suspect Kato, from Yachiyo, Chiba Prefecture, of the crime after finding his fingerprints on a letter sent on Dec. 19 to the driving center saying he would scatter nails over the training course.

About 730 nails were found on the course from mid-December to January. Police believe Kato was responsible for all of the attacks.
