16-year-old arrested for killing mom in Iwate

MORIOKA -- A 16-year-old high school student has been arrested for murdering his 39-year-old mother, who was found dead in the closet of their home here Thursday, police said.

Police said the victim appeared to have been strangled.

Ujita's 33-year-old husband Hirofumi found her bleeding body in a closet when he returned home at about 9:15 p.m. on Thursday.

A rope was lying next to the body and a wound was found on the back of her head.

The couple's son failed to return home that evening, and police had been searching for him. He was spotted walking in front of JR Maesawa Station in Maesawa, Iwate Prefecture, shortly after 11 a.m. on Friday.
