(Kyodo) _ The number of police officers and police employees disciplined for misbehavior, including budget misuse, theft and traffic violations, in 2005 declined 147 from the previous year to 341 across Japan, the lowest since 2000, the National Police Agency said Thursday.
In 2004, 106 police personnel were disciplined for budget misappropriation in Hokkaido, Shizuoka and Fukuoka police forces. In 2005, however, only one superintendent in Hokkaido had his salary cut for oversight responsibility.

Eighty personnel were disciplined for hurting their professional integrity due to drinking or sexual relations, 65 for traffic accidents or traffic violations, and 55 for theft, embezzlement or fraud. Thirty-five others were punished for violations of special laws such as the stimulants control law.
