I'm new here so I'm not quite sure if this topic has been brought up yet, but I would like to hear everybody's opinion about this topic. How many of you have seen the movies? How many of you have seen the "false" headlines stating that the graves were being dug up for sanitary reasons, or because bodies were being buried without permission?

I think that the sanitary story is all a load of BS because if that were the case, wouldn't they have dug up the bodies long ago? Why now?
What's even more disturbing is how they treat the bodily remains. No words can describe the atrocities that these people have committed towards our dead. I'm not sure which movie you guys have seen, but in the one I watched, one worker mentioned something in Thai that roughly translated to: "Here comes the silver, here comes the gold..." while he was removing pieces of bone from a grave.

If these so called exhumations were done in a professional manner, I would be less troubled, but these were people in white t-shirts without gloves, some without shoes, no masks, no proper tools, just a bunch of workers with small gardening tools. How can anybody do that and not think of the conflicting moral issues? What's worst, they eat their food right at the mouths of the dug up graves without any concern for sanitation...Who in their right mind would do this?

It was sickening to watch rotting flesh being stripped away from bones, heads being cut off with butcher knives, and bodies which have not completely rotted being cut up like it was being prepared for a meal. Even animals corpses get more respect than this.

Well, that's all I'm going to say for now. I'm going to be writing up a big research paper on this topic for my english class, but I'd like to get some input first from the hmong community about their thoughts and feelings.

They are just being disrespectful, that's all... Lets all take this as a lesson learned, we shall use this for future relations.

There's been centuries of war according to studies.... It's not a great thing to think about. ...and the desecration of our ancestors.... The spirits are angry and there's already an unbalance. I don't have an opinion about it. I'm speechless on the subject. ...to teach my next generation to hate... it must be done.

does it make sense to bury someone with a silver bar or a dozen sliver coins when the environment around the dead ones are polluted with poverty, aren’t they desecrating these graves for money, when your extremely poor like those Thai people, your in a desperate need of support regardless if its moral or not, it just shows the world that extremely unfortunate people will do anything for money, those who live so well would not understand why these people raid graves, don’t you understand that its a must to survive and those who don’t do it are fools, sometimes hmong people are not buried with anything that’s of financial value and that’s when we get upset when these graves are opened, I guess the Thai’s believe that hmong people bury thier dead ones with silver and gold and I think its a wrong perception, isn’t it obvious that poor hmong people are not buried with gold and silver when most are dependents, I guess you could judge that these Thai’s are purposely trying to screw around, but iono, I think there’s more to the iceberg as it always is more to an iceberg.

I can see your points their, I can understand the case of needing money for desparate reasons, but if these people are just there to look for gold or silver, why dismemeber the corpses? Why put make-up on the one corpse that was petrified? They even laid out money bills all over the petrified corpse....And then proceeded to take pictures with it like it were some grand trophy. Who would do this just for the sole purpose of survival? Why does the Thai government even try to cover up the desecrations then by saying that they were doing it out of sanitary reasons? This is clearly not just a matter of survival or the usual grave robbery, it's more.

Scary if ud ask me

That's right, the Thai government lies out of disrepect. They felt like they can piss on our heads and we won't be able to fight for our dignities because we are country less.

Well, its good you haven't seen the movie yet....So disturbing and sick....Damn, how can those people eat their fricking lunch right on top of an open grave with all the rot juice and flesh strewn all over? My english teacher read my paper about the grave desecrations and now he wants to see the movie, well, hope he likes it icon_twisted.gif But damn, hope all those people digging the graves get raped by animals....

yajthaugluv
Damn right! Even if such people are my worst enemy, I'd still have dignity and respect.

Well these people clearly don't know what the meaning of respect is then. I'm sure they wont mind if I go dig up their mom's grave and boil her corpse down into a tasty stew of rotting flesh...

It's pretty messed up. All hmong people should stop vacationing in Thailand.
silent_tears
I've noticed something....Hmong are being tortured, disrepect, taken advantaged of, and destroyed, dead or alive....

Meh, they are all just jealous because they aren't Hmong.

the movie was so sad....i was crying while watching it, it just broke my heart seeing them treat the bodies like that.
Over the Horizon
I saw the movie, I think, November of last year. Yes, it was pretty disturbing. I don't know what to say. I can't understand why they would dug out the graves of the dead. Well, for whatever reasons, I will never understand. However, I do strongly believe that living beings should never bother the dead. Anyway, to see the Thai and Chinese people cut the dead people that they dug out into parts is a very sad sight for me. What they did is morally wrong. I don't know how many grave sites they dug out so far but I hope that they would never dug out the grave site that my grandmother was buried in. I can't imagine her not resting in peace.

Btw, I registered to Asia Finest Discussion Forum just to reply to this topic.
