Driver of van dies in collision following police chase
HAGI, Yamaguchi -- The driver of a van died in a collision he caused while being chased by a police car early Friday, police said.
At around 12:50 a.m., officers in a police car spotted a van with a stolen license plate in the Hijihara district of Hagi, and began to chase it, local police said.
The van fled at nearly 90 kilometers per hour on Route 262, careered into the opposite lane about 11 kilometers away from Hijihara, and collided head-on with an oncoming truck driven by Takeshige Sato, 63.
In the accident, the 53-year-old driver of the van died from massive wounds, while Sato suffered minor injuries. (Mainichi)
